Ib is probably my second favorite. The painting women are really fucking scary. My buddy is a big horror game fan and we argued for a long time about whether or not horror games need good graphics to be scary. Got him to play Ib and he admitted he was wrong at the painting women.

Besides the two already mentioned, Wadanohara and Lieat are the other two I really like. Uri's games are also good and theres a bunch of them

I've been thinking of putting one together. Probably a bit closer to Lisa or Off. Slowly putting a story together and I'll figure out what direction to go as I do.

Problem is I'm a fuck awful artist so I kind of need to pick a theme that works well with hilariously bad sketches.

The game had good atmosphere and music, and I have no problem with people saying the story is good, though I didn't care for it too much. The gameplay, however, is nothing short of mindnumbing. It's just terrible, some of the worst RPG combat I've ever played. Trivially easy and with no meaningful decisions to be made, you should never lose a fight, ever. It didn't take long before I begrudged every fight, they were complete wastes of time.

That's neat. I could see this being taken into different areas of spook when put into game form. Like, it could be made to look more disgusting or unpleasant to look at, or it could have unnatural looking animations to be more unnerving.
Hey, if you're actually planning on making something don't worry too much if you're not satisfied with the quality of the final product. Gaining experience is important so that your projects are closer to the vision of them you had in mind.

Witch's House is pretty good, and in turn, Yomawari Night Alone feels like a higher production values follow-up to it at times.

Some other good short and spooky RPGMaker games I played are Makoto Nikki and The Dark Side of Red Riding Hood.

I've only played Yume Nikki and .flow for the first time recently and they're both really fun times. The true ending for .flow is really fucking confusing though. I've been meaning to go back and finish it.

If you became friends with her and Ib fell into despair and Garry went insane, Mary stay behind and cease her attempt at leaving the painting world.

I like the 'Together, Forever' ending where Ib and Mary become actual siblings, Mary's wish of leaving the painting world and live her life as a human comes true. Just kind of unfortunate it's at the expense of Garry's life, though. But I prefer that ending.

I dunno about that, but the scariest moment in the game for me, and I'm not saying the game wasn't scary, was when you first go into the painting world, somewhere still in the lobby, and that fucking painting of a guy sneezes. No point in the game made me shit myself more than that, not even the doll room, and I don't know why.
