He meant that with the advent of technology; the range of influence and manipulation can be made through smaller yet technical processes (like a PDA) which can easily be more compartmentalized as time goes on to shape the world as he sees fit. However, Harman Smith (over time) keeps waking Kun-Lan away from his mega-lo-manical dreams and nightmares of world domination.

Who was in the wrong here?

So how many Harman Smiths are there total that are distinct incarnations? Like here's the total I got -

Wheelchair Harman - The one that has history with Kun and plays chess with him.
Comatose Harman - Is able to channel Wheelchair Harman, is seen comatose or dead in the final mission. Not sure if he actually is an incarnation of Harman Smith or just some guy that Emir/Garcian is able to project Wheelchair Harman onto.
Principal Harman - Got killed my Emir and stuffed in the safe
Young Harman - Kills wheelchair Harman and Kun, was the leader of the Union 7 party, and might have absorbed Emir and let him become the dominant persona of the Smith Syndicate

Also - Did Emir actually get absorbed by Harman Smith? I'm not sure if he is just the dominant personality of the Smiths because of his third eye or if he is actually just projecting versions of what he thought the Smith Syndicate were like.

I think Emir was used by the syndicate to become a superweapon because the threat of terrorism would give rise to a situation heated enough to provoke Kun-Lan, so they did that from a young age.

Also old Harman is completely self-aware. Young Harman and Garcian are both kind of vacant in their sense of being. So it leads me to believe that he took over the forefront of his mind, and the vision ring only amplified his desire to seek the truth.

But the game actually says Kun-Lan has the "god hand" and creates illusions that cause world wars like the one Matsuken did against America. The whole game revolves around the idea of illusions becoming reality and the horror of apocalyptic ecents occuring because of a relatively insignificant lie.

I thought Harman was a Entity/Spirit that represented Order and would use any means to attain it through the Killer7 to eliminate those that threatened society in the World and Kun-Lan is a Entity/Spirit that represents Chaos as he uses terrorism as a means to spread havoc and fear in the World through the Heaven Smiles as his "Dream"? Or that they symbolically represent the "essence or soul" of the West vs the East (America & Japan) in their ideals and objectives which leads to further conflict? That's what I got from the game at least. I know that they're not human, but they don't seem to have absolute god-like power which is shown in the game.

From the (very moving) end scene where gargian watches himself blow his brains out, he learns he is essentially dead and has long been absorbed by Harman. He's just one of possible infinite pawns in kun + harmens eternal duel.

I was jus talking about the end quote. They're definitely some sort of apparitions because Garcian can talk to ghosts. It's just as technology moves ahead, the illusions threaten reality and ghosts become suicide bombers. Kun's "angels" are just another reason to kill god and find the truth among the escalating conflicts that eastern traditions manifest in the west.

This game was and is one of the most Unique game experiences I've had. I really wish we had more games that would try shit like this as opposed to the safe bet option. I think we've entered into a bad period in gaming where even indie studios are keeping it safe to make the most money.

The Lion "100 Years Later" scene gives me the same feeling. The fact that Harman's and Kun-Lan's battle goes on that far into the future gives a certain powerful impact to the story.

That's what makes Killer7 stand the test of time so well is because of the unique cel-shaded art-direction that it utilizes, but also the story and the themes that it puts across as a supernatural-political action thriller make it interesting to the extreme.

It really understands hardboiled noir. That whole Ulmeyda cutscene in the trailer was so hardboiled I always feel like my shell is going to crack watching it.

The hero in noir is always flawed because of his desire for old world justice, and talking to Ulmeyda gives you that sensation that he might not be such a bad guy and just might be afraid of Heaven Smiles, but he really is a supervillain. He abandoned the town and continued his research despite knowing that the greatest disease of all was right next door.

Instead everyone went for realism and very few games are as visually striking over a decade later.
