FFXIV exemplifies everything I hate about the modern MMO genre.

final fantasy 11 was the same, just more tedious to change class. you had to go to the mog house everytime.
making classes switch on a single character is a good idea, otherwise you'll have to go through the main quest for every character to unlock things. that's a insane number of hours if you wanna play other jobs, and it just makes people quit.
classes aren't less valuable because you can switch them, they are less valuable because they all feels kind of same. you can go through a dungeon without even watching the classes of your party members with ease, there's almost no strategy aside dodging enemies attacks. i think they did it because in ff11, is you were a out of the meta job you wouldn't find a party even if you yelled for 2 days straight

Base ARR is only 40 hours long. The stuff before Heavensward is another 20 hours. This can be done faster if you skip cutscenes or speedrun through the game by skipping everything optional. That's not long at all compared to other no life mmos.

If you really want to get to Heavensward now then pay to skip ARR but just be warned that you would be skipping out on optional PVE content, cutscenes, and other things. Also players will make fun of you in-game for being a leaf with 1 class leveled.
