Wrong, the mercenary captain pays for a shitton of "extracurricular" activities, because he is only captain by sufferance of his peers, i.e. ALL the mercenaries in the group, and it is also the reason why he gets such a large share of the income, he is expected to pay for a lot.

It becomes even more pressing when they are not mercenaries, but soldiers of a nobleman/woman. then the leader is even more dutybound to pay, because noblesse oblige.
Not paying for the base necessities of your subordinates reflects badly on you and makes you basically the laughinstock of your social stratum.

And yes, a whore from time to time is a base necessity, since otherwise your army would be a raping horde, which is even more humiliating, possibly resulting in your liege taking your title, position and lands, and giving them to someone who does not lead a band of outlaws.

If it's tasteful and makes sense in the context, then sure. For example, paying for whores for your men so they don't desert from your company in the night makes perfect sense.

when you are the head of a band of mercs you would naturally want to keep their morale and loyalty high, paying for whores is a pretty good thing to do if you want to keep your men's spirits high in that setting unless you want to risk mutiny.
