A sword from Any Video Game Ever: A long slab of fire tempered metal, sharpened to a razor edge and it's sole purpose is to split open flesh, slice through muscle and fat, and chop through bone and tissue, releasing the flowing rivers of crimson life from another living being, or in some scenarios, spilling their precious internal organs onto the ground, ending their life in a horrific fashion as they can only look on in shock, despair and terror as their life is ended without any chance of stopping it.
>>
>>386808819
And you are saying that's on par with a head-seeking bug launcher that burrows into your skull and pops your head open like a tube of pringles?

Turok 2 I just used to put the cheats in and replay that level over and over.

>>
>>386809527
Yes, because a sword can do just that. You can press the sharpened tip of a blade against a man's skull and slowly push inward, that solid steel edge splitting through their skull and slowly cutting into their brain. Thats just one option too, you could also swing the blade, hacking into their head, destroying the grey matter through a combination of force and solid, sharp steel. A sword is one of the more horrifying objects in history.
>>
>>386809527
Your head being destroyed would probably kill you a lot faster than someone in any shooter killing you with dick shots.
>>
>>386809527
The brain has no nerve endings, so the most pain you would get it from the drill boring through your scalp, which would probably sting really bad, but by the time the drill starts pulping your brains, you probably won't be concerned about pain anymore. The worst part would be the sound and sensation of your head vibrating until finally you just stop working as a living thing once your brain has been reduced to a slurry.
>>
>>386810323
True, but riddle me this. Which is worse, 2 minutes of vague feat, then pain and the motions of death, or 10 seconds knowing its coming to get you and there's nothing you can do and you aren't actually sure if that's it or if it's just sweat trickling down yo-- NOPE that's definitely it, it hurts and you feel things in places you shouldn't and nerves shutting down.
>>
>>386808819
>>386810213
You're just talking about a normal fucking sword.
That's like saying "wow this pistol sure is horrific because the cold metal bullets drill into the flesh of my unsuspecting victim" or some shit.
Your flowery fucking writing doesn't make an ordinary weapon any more horrifying.
A sword is a normal weapon, not horrifying. A gun is a normal weapon, not horrifying. Now, a gun that shoots bullets that burrow into your fucking skull and make your brain explode? That's horrific.
>>
>>386810825
Honestly, with how fast that bore goes, you'd probably feel pain and fear and panic for at most, five second, before the drill gets through your skull and your brain is pulped. You would not have time to register what was going on

This is the needler from Halo. As it's name implies, it impales you with needles. The needles explode after awhile, and if it's stuck in you then you'll get crystal shards inside your body. If you get hit by enough needles then you'll violently explode because the needles are somehow smart enough to coordinate a detonation. The needles also home in on targets.
>>
>>386811078
Whats not horrific about a slab of metal designed to split, slice, chop, hack, stab and separate parts of your body in numerous ways, some of which leave you alive long enough to see the other ways it works.
>>
>>386811165
As someone who works with fiber glass daily, the concept of shards and needles stabbing into me is really not pleasant
>>

What makes a sword not horrifying is the fact that there are a million weapons that are far more horrifying, it's all relative.
You can't say a sword is horrifying compared to shit like a brain burrower or one of those other crazy video game weapons.

Is this a fourteen year old trying to be philosophical? The thread topic is clearly about painful and more importantly unique weapons. Something as mundane and ubiquitous as a sword doesn't count. All weapons are gruesome if you ignore those parameters.
>>
>>386811505
Why can't I? This isn't a competition of "whats more horrifying" The topic is simply "horrific weapons" and I consider the kind of shit a sword can do to a person as horrific in it's own right. Like you said, it's all relative, just because I consider swords to be horrifying doesn't detract from the horrificness of your own suggestion.
>>
>>386811602
It's not horrifying though. It's basic bitch violence.

I don't see a list of rules. A brain bore isn't even a painful weapon, the most pain you'll feel is from it damaging the scalp, and depending on how long your hair is, yanking your hair out, which, sure, it's painful, but so is a sword cutting your stomach open and spilling your insides out. Once the bore gets through your skull, you won't feel a thing besides vibrations.

Is it just me or is it kind of hypocritical to hand out grenades that release a fucking nerve agent condemned by the geneva convention to every field operative in this agency that's supposed to be stopping the use of viral weaponry?
>>
>>386811414
Yup, they would also run away from you screaming in terror while you were riding the dinosaur in the river of souls. Enemies like the endtrails would even try to take cover behind things like boxes which was really impressive for a console shooter at the time.
>>
>>386811805
Except swords aren't horrifying just because you think they are.
They simply aren't horrifying weapons, they're normal weapons. Insects have used blades forever and I'm not scared of a mantis because it has "blades that can sever, slash, and separate body parts".
If I had to choose between facing a weapon that could melt my body and cause me horrific pain, or a sword, I'd choose the sword any day.
Swords are not horrifying weapons unless you're either brain damaged, or have never seen another kind of weapon in your entire life.

http://www.jokerdesigns.com/thehunted/weapons/

The Net Gun is small and usually reserved for ambushing a group of prey, when entering a major combat area and the temporary incapacitation of a subject is necessary.
The net gun is not a projectile weapon, instead launches a web of razor-sharp wire powerful enough to propel a target to the floor/wall and pin them there, viciously cutting into the flesh.
If the target tries to struggle the damage increases, and this keeps up until the subject is released or is killed. The net can also release on a trigger from the weapon.

Through an amusing quirk of the game mechanics whips are actually more vicious than just about every other weapon in the game considering it's contact density and the way various metals interact with one another.

An Adamantine Whip will slash through anything up to Steel armour with no problem. Dismemberment is standard on unarmoured meatshields/soldiers.

An absolute waste, get your shit together.
Only use adamantium for armor, shields, and swords.
Everything else has higher multipliers for weight & don't benefit as much from adamantium's properties.
Whips in particular are VERY poor weapons for demon-nougat since they derive most of their damage from the extreme blunt impact velocity.
Pic-related is far superior.

A standard Drawf Fortress combat log.
Admittedly, an Adventure mode combat log, since your own dwarves will only very rarely throw things, especially heavy things that might slow them down. But there's nothing stopping you from being a Judo adventurer. Even handfulls of sand and vomit make terrifying weapons to a master thrower.

Other fun things you can do in adventure mode/the arena
>Count and track the teeth when you punch someone in the mouth
>Kick a giant panda (Like, 12-15 foot giant) in the crotch until it vomits uncontrollably
>In-depth grapple commands, like "use your right arm to grab his left ear, then pinch it"
>Damage tracked down to the skin layer
>Cause of death 95% of the time is due to blood loss, asphyxiation, or decapitation/brain pulping. The remaining 5% is drowning (Asphyxiation), thirst, hunger, collapse, and "magic" effects
>Tangle with the intellectual puzzle of wrestling a hydra
>Climb stuff, usually poorly
>Get a silver sword that keeps bludgeoning people to death

Sadly, Carp are no longer the battle-hungry demons they once were, and Elephants are now far more passive. Giant Sponges still exist, though I don't know if they have since made Undead Giant Sponges not the unerreant harbingers of your eventual demise.

"Oh, to bathe in the blood of others! This spell is especially useful in the face of multiple combatants. Beware those with tainted blood."
―Kain — Listen (file info)

Blood Shower was a spell acquired and used by Kain during the events of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. Kain found it during his visit to Vorador's Mansion. This spell allowed him to drain and feed with the blood of up to four nearby enemies, while the other victims that were in the vicinity would suddenly die nonetheless.

―Kain — Listen (file info)

The Energy Bolt was a spell acquired and used by Kain during the events of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. It was found inside a shrine to the south of Nachtholm. This spell allowed Kain to throw an energy projectile against his enemies in a straight-line course. The projectile could be used to activate switches located in unreachable places and was quite deadly against early enemies, easily blowing up their bodies into pieces.

>Kain and Vorador can literally cause your blood to fly out of every single pore in your body till you're dried as a husk
>later receives a spell that allows him to boil your blood and immolate you from the inside (also something found in VtMB)
Fucking love the shit out of LoK. There's no way it can be continued or rebooted while being even half as great.

The franchise was sucked dry hurr by unimaginative writers after Soul Reaver.
>>
>>386816295
I think SR2 and Defiance were still imaginative as fuck though. I loved how they got the series to come full circle with the prophecy. They even managed to un-fuck the whole Hyldan thing introduced in BO2. In fact, in retrospect, BO2 was pretty alright too. Definitely the worst LoK game but it was still alright.

Brigador had some fucked up weapons. Imagine the game with actual gore that matched the weapons' descriptions.
> Tubarão gas burning the skin off civilians and foot soldiers
> Black Hand fucking melting the flesh off people at 25 meters or less, possibly coughing up their liquefied organs and causing them to ignite and convulse before being reduced to nothing but a pile of charred remains

The game doesn't intentionally try to be comedic but weird stuff like this happens all the time. I think it's just the sheer number of things that can happen lead to some crazy shit inevitably going down.

Autism doesn't even begin to describe the absolutely horrifyingly level of detail present in every single mechanic of the game. The creator is a genuine, modern day mad scientist.

It's absurd to probably a similar degree that everyday life would be absurd if you had strangely phrased, completely in-depth descriptions of everything you did and experienced.

Not a fan of the presenter but the story is a good indicator of how DF's absurd number of systems for modelling... life... can interact in weird ways and produce even weirder results.

This.
DF is special because creatures don't just have a simple HP value and they die when it's 0.
Almost everything of that creature is there.
Skin, fur, flesh and bones. Each limb, nail, ear and eye. Lungs (left and right), liver, heart and brain.
You don't just attack a wolf for 10 damage
you stab your spesr into the right upper leg, fracturing the bone and making it bleed.
and then the blood is on its fur and on your spear and if it was poisonous blood and you'd stab someone else with it he would get poisoned.

I wish every game world had a DF counterpart concerning depth

arent whips blunt weapons and thus gain damage from material weight, not sharpness? adamantine is extremely light, silver whips are the strongest variety (silver being the densest metal you can make weapons out of). adamantine scourges (being edged instead of blunt) are sick though.

If you've played any real roguelikes, you should be able to get into adventure mode in Dwarf Fortress pretty easily. Put a lot of points into wrestling or something, then go break any part of anyone you want in any way. A little bit of imagination goes a really, really long way since it describes everything in detail.
>>
>>386820858
Doesn't really look that much better honestly, it's just slightly better graphics but everything is still tile based. At least in my opinion.

Also, do you know what the hell is going on with that picture you used? Is that guy just really fucking ugly or did he have some accident?

The only thing that bothered me about that is that you can't really use that ability if you want the good ending. Really wish they hadn't gone that route with the development. They give you so many toys to play with but if you want the best ending you've got to stick to choke holds and tranq darts.
>>
>>386821365
It actually makes a huge difference, at least for me. With ASCII graphics a lot of shit is just kind of a jumbled mess and it's hard to tell what everything is unless you examine it. Maybe I'm just autistic or some shit too but I find the amount of black dead space with ASCII graphics kind of disorienting too. Tiles give it a much more solid look and makes it easier to identify what's what.
>>
>>386821365
Personally I find it much clearer when I use a tileset.

I dunno if you'd could count it but The Darkness from the Darkness. That did some pretty gruesome executional kills like tentacle whipping a guy in half, or having the wee monster bit impail and eat their hearts.

It also leveled up by eating corrupt hearts so you'd to hunt about after a fight and sit and eat all your enemies hearts so you'd get more powers like a vortex and shit

Awww, I wanted to post Black Hand:
>The Black Hand is a gamma emitter used almost exclusively by Spacers; fielding the weapon alone is sufficient for war crimes charges, but the few militaries with means to pursue action against the Spacers are also the ones who employ them. Against an unshielded target, single ignitions can inflict 3rd degree burns and a guarantee of cancer at 100 yards, and within 50 you begin to see 4th degree burns and spontaneous contracture. Exposure at 25 yards is a death sentence even when protected behind several inches of armor plating; liquefaction of the dermis and internal organs is common, and even if a target somehow survives exposure at that range they are permanently incapacitated.

>Given the efficacy of hardshields against gamma emitters, I'm convinced the widespread deployment of this weapon by Spacers serves a more psychological than directly combat related role. The sound of its hissing crackle is enough to panic even seasoned soldiers, and from what I've seen of Spacers in combat, particularly amongst their light mech spears, I suspect this weapon is also used as form of counting coup.

>Regardless, I have seen the aftermath of its use firsthand. It is a cruel and terrible weapon.
