Why do laser muskets need ammo if you have to charge the shot with a crank?

fallout 4 hate thread
>>
It just works.
>>
Yeah I was real confused and disappointed the first time I ran out of ammo with one.
>>
>>386805401
the crank transfers the power from the cell to the chamber. thats why you can crank like 6 cells worth of energy before firing
>>
>>386805401
The ammo may not actually be ammo, but rather just a component of the weapon that gets burnt-out with each shot, like maybe they're lenses that can only focus so much energy before warping.
>>
>>386805401

They had some really nice concept art but they had to give it all to third party developers to finish off, so that's why they didn't add any cool looking complex models.

Their shitty programmers that are todds friends wasted more time trying to work with the bungled code.

Eventually they ran out of time and money and the game was finished by Chinese and Vietnamese developers.

This is the state of the industry.

>>386805401
The "ammo" could be any sort of resource that is consumed by firing, even if all the electricity is provided by the cranking, you could be burning out lenses, burning out a light or fuse, using up some sort of gas the light needs to be shone through, any number of possibilities.

Honestly the laser weapons are the least offensive in terms of bad design because with the mechanical guns you can just straight up see that the mechanics would not function at all.

Is it just me, or is Fallout 4 stupidly fucking bright with no way to turn it down? It hurt my eyes after about ten minutes.

I got a explosive double barrel shot gun and it was op but well its only good at close range.
I got explosive perks and the got a explosive laser gun and well its super accurate compared to the shotgun and full auto with no recoil and the ammo is the most common thing in the game.
Then I unlocked the beam splitter.
I can kill a deathclaw in 2 vats 3 burst to the head at long range. It also one shots humans.
I stoped using it after the game got boring.

I liked the idea of the pipe rifles, but they were so useless as a weapon than even at the beginning of the game I never used them unless I ran out of ammo.

In fact, I liked the idea of the workbench until I noticed that they just added around 10 guns and told us "YOU CAN MAKE 50 GUNS OUT OF THESE 10 GUNS" and the entire game became very boring and you had little reason to scavenge for stuff.

The only fun part of the game was when I was weak as fuck and shitty weapons enemies dropped were useful to me, so I could disassemble them and put them into good weapons.
>>
>>386809586
There's "realism" and then there's consistency. Fallout gives us a reason to expect ghouls and supermutants. It doesn't give us a reason to expect guns to work in a totally different way where the mechanism no longer makes sense.

Or you can get the exact opposite like me and never find anything other than elemental damage guns and shadowed leather armor

The legendary system was so badly executed in this game because you either find the most broken weapon in the game on one of the first raiders you find or you find said weapon at mid to late game when it doesn't matter because you can already get or buy one of the broken named legendary weapons in the game

Why couldn't they make it so certain prefixes show up only after a certain lever or are more common at a certain point in the game? You know, maybe at that point when enemies become fucking bullet sponges that take 1000 shots to kill?

I remember i thought it would be fun to roleplay a character who was bad at everything and was a mechanic who maintained / needed their power armor because i thought power armor cells would be scarce enough to make using power armor as my main source of protection / damage a risk.

After about 5 hours of play time I had like 20 fusion cores and I could basically use my power armor indefinitely.

I think Bethesda won't make a Fallout 5. When you look at how much of Fallout 4 was just "Fallout 3, remixed edition" it gives the very really sense that they're creatively starved regarding the IP.

But, that does not mean Obsidian will be making the next Fallout. When Zenimax likes a third party devs work for them, they tend to strong arm them into a buyout. Obsidian was not bought by Zenimax. Zenimax, presumably, does not wish to work with them again.

I think the IP will sleep in the Zenimax backlog (with occasional merchandising) alongside Rage until someone buys it in a few decades.

The thing about Bethesda and all of their developer tools since Morrowind is that all objects rely on something called "tagging". That is, you assign tags in order to define an object's properties and it relies solely on what these tags for every thing about it. For instance, in Skyrim an NPC can have tags for its race, sex, hostility, and other such things.
The problem with this system is that you're limited by what an object's primary assignment is as well as the number and variety of additional tags you can add on top of that. When it came to Fallout 4, Bethesda heavily stripped down tagging to the point that every single weapon's animation set is dependent on its weapon type and not what that weapon actually is. Very few weapons actually have a unique animation set such as the musket.

This really could have been a nice part of the game instead of a throwaway class of weapon.

Have the pipeguns normally be a class underneath the prewar weapons, then with a ton of scavenging and upgrading, make them about equal in effectiveness to prewar weapons. By late game, be able to build pipegun monstrosities that completely outclass prewar weapons.

That's actually another mistake, if I remember correctly. They didn't intentionally kill everyone in the Vault, the life support fails and kills them.

As for why they didn't take everyone, they wanted a baby. They kept the protagonist around since being related would make him a better backup than someone completely different.

>Why would they not take everyone when they have teleportation?

They may not have had teleportation at that time. I don't recall if it's ever said when the teleporter was completed.

>Why did they shoot your wife?

Because Kellogg is a dick and knew they only cared about having one backup. Also for narrative purposes.

>Why would they have kellog be there looking threatening instead of dressing as pre war scientists?

I assumed he was acting as security for the actual scientists who were dressed as scientists.

I'm not defending the game, it's a pile of trash, but I don't like calling out plot holes that aren't there.
