It won't Prime games will never take place after Fusion and will always take place in between Metroid/Zero Mission and Metroid II/Samus Returns. Tanabe wants to use Metroids in his games and Metroids can be wildly used before Metroid II according to Sakamoto. If a Prime game is to take place after Fusion, it can't have Metroids in it.

I'm aware that game development costs have increased and that prices for games have not been adjusted and that 2.5D is easier to do animations with and so forth but Metroid and Zelda have always used sprites for their 2D games until now and quite frankly it's an insult to the fans of those games that they are going to drop sprites going forward.

It doesn't help that the art direction for Samus Returns is incredibly bland from what we've seen so far and the game itself looks pretty bad from a graphical point of view.

Gonna go ahead and say this right now but in general most metroid games have pretty bad art direction when you look at something like castlevania as a comparison. The backgrounds in metroid have always been very bland with not very much going on other than generic boring scenery.

I'm cautiously optimistic for Metroid 5, as of right now I like what I've been seeing with Samus Returns along with what I've been hearing about the game. Looking at all the new additions makes me interested in Metroid 5 and where Nintendo takes the game. I also wonder what system will Metroid 5 show up, the 3DS or the Switch. I hope after Samus Returns, Sakamoto and his team at EPD will work with MercurySteam again on Metroid 5.
