Keiji Inafune has been toying with a Westernized DMC for years. Him and the other suits were never happy with DMC's sales, which typically were 2-3 million and were growing with each game. No, they wanted God of War sales. His first attempt was Shadow of Rome (2005). DmC was his brainchild with assistance of Ben "It's better than nothing" Judd. Inafune had said that Japanese gaming was years behind and dead, and that the West was the future in 2009. He blocked DMC4: SE and DMC5. Then He hired Ninja Theory, he set everything up. He left Capcom in 2010 just one month after DmC was revealed. Ninja Theory then suggested a full reboot.

So he didn't oversee the project, but he set it up. There's always a 2-4 year delay in when games are approved and when they come out, so a lot of people didn't blame Inafune as they should as he had been long gone from Capcom at that point.

Don't blame Tameem or Ninja Theory. They're just middle of the road devs who were totally over their heads. Blame the guy who hired them.

Inafune is a conman extraordinaire whose name has lost traction after MN9 and NT/Tamtam lost their credibility after the huge DmC fiasco. Maybe they didn't want anyone to find out they stole the lock-on mod and put it into the game? The definitive edition is just that, a 1080p/60fps version with lock on and all the DLCs.

I actually enjoyed this game for what it was. Combichrist side of the soundtrack was neat, wasn't too big on noisia tho. Really wish they would have gone with the original 2010 idea tho I liked that Dante more, he would have been a bit more original at least. Instead we got a watered down version of Japanese Dante ala "west makes live action of x anime."
