In some alternate universe, Artifact was just a meme valve created to fuck with their audience before immediately announcing half life 3 afterwards.

Fuck.

This. L4D is funner than HL.
>>
>>386805289
People only want HL3 so we can finally have some closure on a decade-old cliffhanger, also the story actually seemed like it was about to go weird places.

Otherwise yeah, L4D is a great game to get a rush going with, a 3rd entry would be welcomed.
>>
>>386801438
You think they would ever make a Team Fortress 3?
>>
HL3 will NEVER be made. All it would do is damage Valve's brand at this point, no matter what they do with it people will view it as a disappointment. That's to say nothing about how the level of money they could expect to make with it is a drop in the ocean compared to the fuckloads of cash their one-day-illegal gambling and free to play models pump out. Everyone who expects to see HL3, ever, is deluding themselves.
>>
>muh hl3

>>
>>386809101
yes. it would look a lot like Overwatch at a glance (especially in being Hero rather than Class based - no more loadouts) but actually play almost totally differently (would be 100% PC exclusive, for starters, with real PC-quality netcode, not the console abomination of Overwatch), eg. much more twitch-based, much more open and complex maps, much more opportunity for community involvement (as Valve has always prided themselves on, eg. community servers, community made maps/modes). Basically imagine if Overwatch was actually good, that's TF3.

the #1 barrier to it ever happening is TF2s continued activity. it would have to drop off the top-10 most played list for them to ever even consider retiring it.

Fuck that dumb shit. Loadouts are good.

If you have 25 heroes like Overshit does, your playstyle choices are locked in with no room for individual adjustment (like Overshit), and all the characters are bland and boring (like Overshit) because they don't have time to develop them.

>>
>>386811493
>Loadouts are good.
Yep, you get it. TF2 is more interesting because you have a scale of options that can't exist in a hero-based shooter with no loadouts. Part of why OW is boring to me, you can't ever try anything new with a character, outside of a skin that doesn't really matter.

What if Valve announced a new IP unrelated to anything they've made before? What would you hope they would make?
>>
Honestly, I'm more interested in how they'll transfer their f2p model to a CCG, or if it'll be f2p to begin with. If they just give out all the cards to begin with, it might be worth checking out. The design of the game would be drastically different.
>>
>>386814042
I'd love to see their take on a sci-fi/cyberpunk world that isn't HL.
>>
>>386814042
F-Stop, or some kind of RPG like they're hinting at.
>>
>>386814227
Easy, they'll definitely have card drops and you can sell them on the market. Market sales are genius. It reduces the amount of money in Steam wallets dramatically because they take a cut each sale. They can make far more than a card is worth.
>>
>>386814227
Man, they already have trading cards and booster packs and a whole fucking market built into Steam. All this steam trading card bullshit was just a test to see how much money they could wring out of people with digital cards. Artifact is just the next step in this plan.

Expect them to be even more jewish than Hearthstone with card drops because you can just buy the rare cards you need on the market. They'll tease you with a few free packs here and there and then sink their hooks deep into you.
>>
>>386811493
>>386812836
I'll agree it's been a qualified success for TF2, but it's not supportable past a certain point (level of complexity in maximum possible loadouts). The workload to balance it becomes too great, and so there simply are no major balance-changing additions made. This is exactly what happened to TF2, and ever since then, when they moved to a single big annual update, they've been significantly focused on forcing in the 'subclasses' by reducing inter-weapon-set compatibility (eg. taking of everything that might help a half-knight from demoknight gear and making it exclusively shield-focused, same for spy and scout to lesser degrees) and cleaning up general sideeffects of the loadout system (eg. eliminating passive effects from weapons that might not always be visible).

Hero-based structure bypasses all of this, and is much more accessible. great complexity is still possible, Overwatch fails this by being generally oversimplified, not as a necessary consequence of being Hero based
>>
>>386810492
there's literally no edge or "outside" of space. expansion of space means all particles within the space are moving outwards from the center. If there were any other universes different from our own, it would be on another plane of existence separated by a higher dimension

Why the fuck did they make source 2, AND THE FIRST GAME THEY MAKE IS THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE?!
>>

Source 2's biggest goal was ease of content creation, so they went ahead and tested it out with the easiest content to create.
>>
>Gordon Freeman's VA will die before a new game is made
>>
>>386818169
The first game made for Source 2 was Half-Life 3 (their development inseparable, HL3 needs informing Source 2 development). The first one released was the DOTA2 port. The second released was The Lab (specifically the Robot Repair demo, the rest was in Unity). The third will most likely be a CS:GO port, unless there is a surprise release before then. Personally I'd bet they will have one of their promised 'full AAA VR games' out on Source 2 before Artifact.

I don't doubt that (with almost all of their staff seemingly working on VR, they damn well better have something) , but they'd be releasing Q2 2018 at the earliest. CS:GO Source 2 is later this year and they'll push Artifact out well before the next International so they can have a tournament there.

>>
>>386819508
The HD D0G model leak is just about a year old. It came from the 'VR Performance Test App' which unintentionally exposed WIP directories for several other unreleased VR demos (like Robot Repair).

There are leaks going back several years, because the leaks have been fairly constant for several years.

They can barely push 1 hero/year, and all their hats are outsourced to the workshop now.

The only thing they do now is stamp their approval on workshop submissions and have big pink cookie-fueled orgies.

Thank God Bethesda Studio's Creation Club will have Bethesda artists involved in every step of community add-on creation.

That's true for any game with a large amount of content.
Besides, it doesn't ALL have to be balanced. So long as most of it's balanced and none of it is OP, nobody will complain.
>This is exactly what happened to TF2
TF2 is almost perfectly balanced for pubs right now with loadouts, and has been horribly imbalanced for competitive gameplay since day 1, loadouts or no loadouts.
>Hero-based structure bypasses all of this, and is much more accessible
>accessible
What do you actually mean by this? Sounds like casualization to me.

Hero-based structure does not remove balance issues whatsoever.

In an interview in times Gaben stated that the video game industry can't keep going like it does today. He said the bubble will pop and the companies which invested too much in dev time will not have much in the way of reimbursement for losses. There's a need to lower budgets and make simpler games with focus on accessibility and not core demographics. Basically he is saying that all of video games is a tapestry of niche markets and you have to carpet bomb them with trash to survive.

>>
>>386828760
>so no matter what they release under Half-Life, people will eat that shit up. The only ones that will hate it will be contrarians from /v/.

Ease up on the buzzwords.

You yourself said that a large chunk of people would eat HL3 up regardless of quality. In other words if the game was shit the people that aren't mindless fanboys would think that the game was shit.
You on the other hand labeled these people as "contrarians" which is what they wouldn't be in this case.

Every day we fire a laser to the moon and measure the response time. When they first landed on the moon they placed a piece of reflector on it so they could accurately measure the space between the moon and earth. However during the past handful of years, they noticed the number slowly get bigger. This began two theories. One, the universe as a whole is expanding, thus the space between all physical objects slowly are getting further apart. Or two, the earth's molten core is slowly cooling thus powering down its magnet we call the gravitational pull, with a gravitational pull weakening, it would mean that all objects are just going further away from the earth itself.

Look it up.
