It plays more like a linear spectacle shooter than an immersive sim like previous Bioshocks/System Shocks, which wouldn't be so bad if the levels allowed for more creative freedoms with the sky hook. As it is the combat is just kinda boring.

I don't normally try to challenge myself when playing single-player games, but the game is very easy if you have experience with first-person shooters

I liked it a lot, until I realized how repetitive it is. I got a level or so past the first sequence where big bird attacks, and quit out of boredom.

The reason it is bad is because you can only carry two weapons. Because the weapons in areas change from area to area, you can't always have the exact weapons you want which makes upgrading stupid since youre really just using whatever you can find for the most part. So from a gameplay perspective it is entirely neutered. The rest I don't think as as bad as /v/ makes out, but it certainly isn't as good as some other people make it out to be. I feel that it was just a lot of wasted potential overall.

Gameplay is a combination of some of the worst FPS mechanics and tropes. Story can't keep track of its own bullshit and contradicts itself multiple times. The moment they jump to another fucking dimension just so they didn't need to haul those crates of weapons back, I knew it was fucking bullshit.

Considering the society turns into a shit hole when the in-game leftists take over, I'd say the game is pretty middle of the road.
Personally, I felt the gunplay was a massive downgrade from the first (never played the second). I also didn't like the change from a dreary, rundown and nearly abandoned understand society to a colorful, still heavily populated society in the sky.
I did, however, like the change to each ability having its own Mana pool. Half the abilities didn't do anything more than stun the enemy in different ways, though.
I probably would have liked it more if it didn't use the Bioshock name, so I could go in with no expectations.

I don't care about the propaganda. I don't care about the race stuff. It has the same issues bioshock 1 and 2 had for me, and Valerian had. Where there is a clear goal within a short distance from the characters, but they have to take a massive detour through something world-building but ultimately very unrelated. Then the story lays out two factions for the player to interact with, and develop the world. The government/security force, and rebels. But within an hour of introducing the rebels, they go from "the enemy of my enemy, but idk if we're friends" to "they're red bad guys to add to your blue bad guys."

If the game wasn't set in fucking 1913 O'd say yes but it's set in 1912. It's not forced, hell it's not even relevant to the plot. Nothing from the game's backdrop is relevant to the plot. Elizabeth is the only thing that matters and that story is terrible. Ironically enough if the game was actually about the racist Founders fighting the anarchistic Vox Populi it would have been significantly better.
