A topic a couple days ago reminded me that this exists so I decided to buy it. I'm going in blind and I'm completely new to rogue-like

Played for five hours and I'm really terrible at it. How hard is it to git gud? I have a hard time managing my stress levels and once a hero goes apeshit everyone else usually does too

Yeah I figured the stress bitches should be the first ones to go on my last quest and it went a bit better but I still had a hard time since they were all no level. My best roster got trashed by the necromancer and I have a hard time bouncing back from that

For now, just pay attention to the basic shit not to do.

Leper is a noob trap, so are books, and any -SPD trinkets as well. Focus the backline down, disable the frontline with stuns. Use the time they're stunned to recover and kill.

Most setups should be able to hit every row. I like my second character to be dps (highwayman, houndmaster, bounty hunter)
Prioritize damage types by region (you want some blight for ruins, and cove, bleed for weald and warrens)
Upgrade your stagecoach at the expense of everything else. If a hero has too many negative quirks, trash them. If a low level hero goes insane, its sometimes better just to dump them rather than cure them.
Don't upgrade Tavern or Monastery until you have a solid Guild and Blacksmith. Stress goes down every week if a hero isn't on a mission anyway. If you upgrade weaponsmith, blacksmith and guild to lvl 2, you can start getting level 1 recruits. This is extremely important to lower grind
Don't lock positive quirks unless they are insanely good. Don't even bother removing negative quirks unless its like -crit on a highwayman
Don't bring people with negative quirks for particular locations to those locations.
ALWAYS CHECK YOUR TRINKETS. DON'T RUN WITHOUT TRINKETS. TRINKETS ARE FRIENDS USE THEM.
Don't die if you have an expensive trinket. Retreat so you don't lose it.

You can never technically "lose" Darkest Dungeon. It is always possible to come back from a loss. It will take time, but it is possible to recover. The only limiting factor is time.

In addition to some of the other bits of advice, don't be afraid to cut your losses and run if you need to. Keep in mind that if you abandon a quest you still get paid for the loot you bring back. If your party gets wiped on the other hand: well you get nothing.
That's one of the things I think people who complain about RNG don't seem to get. Part of Darkest Dungeons is recognizing when the odds are against you and knowing when to cut your losses and run.

The trinket tier list is so fucked on the Crimson Court segment reposting from /dadg/
