Doing all questlines/factions and sidequests alone would keep me occupied a lot.
Then I would collect all the books I came across and have lots of stories to read and lore to study.
I'd try to explore the whole map and note everything noteworthy, basically crafting my own wiki.
I'd study the history and the whole timeline and maybe finally figure out what happened to the dwarves.

Do you think ot would hold up a whole year? I only play it sporadically for a week or two until waiting ~1 year or even more until getting back to it.
Adv mode is still pretty barebones and even fort mode hasn't that much to do for a whole year (especially now that sieges got super rare)

If you have even a basic understanding of how to modify it (it's dead simple, once you know keywords and stuff) then you can put basically whatever you want into it. A fair few years back I started making a mod with all the original Pokemon, which even when I wasn't playing was just fun to mod in. Lots of fun and crazy shit happens when you're modding.

Dwarf Fortress would be my choice, I can't think of any other single player game that could truly hold up for thousands of hours in the same way (at least not off the top of my head). I suppose another alternative would be Guilty Gear (fill in the fighter of your choice here) and spending the time trying to get better, but it's hard to really git gud if you're just against AI. You could memorize perfect frame timing for everyone though and get all moves down perfectly I guess. Otherwise some weeb grindan autism simulator.

If we had a network between bunkers but zero internet (sort of a giant LAN) the possibilities go way up though.
