The pro controller being sold separately is absolutely fine to me. The console comes with two joycons already included, which double as 2 separate controllers. Great value, and plus, the console was designed around the joycons first and foremost. Emphasis on being able to play in a ton of different styles. I love them, really slick and intuitive way to play. Pro controller is just an extra accessory if you want to play that way, so it shouldnt be included anyway.

It's not a "can't" situation, though simply downloading someone else's rips doesn't really help the image. It's because Nintendo doesn't like to treat its games, no matter how old, as something you just toss into a pack of 50 games or something or offer as a "service." They've broken that last one, if only because apparently they wanted to see how people would react to their paid online model and so redid their plans once the criticisms rolled in. Notice that the NES and SNES minis are still limited time models meant as hype producers, not an actual long term product.

But otherwise, Nintendo thinks if you want to play their games, even the oldest ones, you should be paying. Maybe not the same price, but certainly not what people think they should be paying. They want each game to be descrete, something you buy by itself. The discovery of a built in Emulator for the NES on the Switch would seem to point to future changes to that model as well, but for now that's where it sits.

The Switch is also obviously rushed with the barebones features and the apparent paucity of Dev kits, but they sure seemed to want to try otherwise within the limits of their weird standards. They did listen to Capcom saying to up the RAM, for all the good it did in getting Capcom to actually make shit for the Switch. Unless Nintendo just goes full Sony and bends over for 3rd Parties, I don't think things will ever really improve. How Nintendo wants to run its console, and the dominance it will always have on them software-wise, simply precludes the kinds of 3rd Party collaboration or interest you see on the other consoles these days.

Why can't Nintendo make more Co-op adventure titles? Or single player games with compelling stories and fun game-play?
They need to stop fucking with good games like Paper Mario and bring back what made them good, colorful characters with personality and story driven experiences. Add co-op and you get great memories with friends.

Agree with most points, while still in the same situation. Own a Switch, happy but disappointed. Most major games for it, I already own on Wii U. Zelda, Mario Kart and Splatoon.
But I understand some of their decisions.
No music on home screen means less battery consumption.
No switch voice chat means no mic on console which means lower price.
But you don't need to add friend codes anymore. You can also add friends from 3DS and Wii U if you want.
The lack of non-gaming related software is also a vain attempt at reducing the vulnerabilities hackers can use to mood the console.
They're scared. The DS, Wii, Wii U and 3DS were HUGE piracy breeding grounds so it's too be expected they're a little skittish.

The size of the analog sticks is fine, and the material feels okay - not too good, not too bad - but the convex design in particular created a pretty serious annoyance for me with prolonged play. The point I'm trying to make here isn't about the Wii U's library or why it failed. It's about the idea that the Wii U's audience was made up of ten million hardcore Nintendo fans that will buy anything that Nintendo puts out. If there was such a big hardcore fanbase, the Wii U wouldn't have sold so poorly at launch. If there was such a big hardcore fanbase, Nintendo's flagship titles on the Wii U would have had attach rates near 100%, not 50% or lower. The amount of hardcore fans isn't anything like what's being imagined. A big chunk of Wii U's sales were still coming from the more casual audience.

Switch had all the right marketing lined up (NES Mini as brand re-awareness pre Switch launch, that fucking Imagine Dragons song being played nonstop everywhere) and it's still trailing. It's not doing poorly, but PS4 is still smothering it in sales. Nintendo can't realistically compete, even if they released a Zelda every year. They're in a uniquely "niche" market share, which is why they're satisfied with their distribution vs demand. They can't numerically compete with Sony, or at least the image of Sony's dominance. So they stick to their brands and IPs. Probably sucks dick as an investor when you number crunch but we're just gamers.
So ultimately what it comes down to is games vs what other platforms have to offer. And right now, the only reason to get a Switch is if you really didn't own a Wii U and want to play Zelda and Mario's (3 games with Mario as the mascot in a 9 month period is pretty suspect). It gets warmer when docked because being docked unthrottles the hardware to do the higher resolutions. Since you're not holding it, this isn't supposed to be much of a concern, which is how it goes for consoles in general. However, since the gimmick of the console is the immediacy of Switching from TV to Handheld play, it can be a bit of a concern. It shouldn't be warping the console, but who knows what may be happening with anon's specific one. Considering other uncommon issues have blown up for a bit, I'd figure the actual console warping would be all over the place if it was more than a rare defect.

Yeah, if you value Nintendo's specific set of exclusives above all other games in those genres to a very strong degree (e.g. Bayonetta, Wonderful 101 to the exclusion of say NieR, Nioh, Dark Souls, Bloodborne), then the system has an unbeatable lineup. I guess it was my fault for buying a nintendo console and expecting them to release anything other than mario and zelda. So far I only have three games (zelda, arms, and MK8D) deluxe i kinda regret buying, this is due to the racing not feeling as good as say Modnation racers. BOTW was a weird experience, I played about 120hrs then decided to beat ganon. After doing that i realized that the rest of the game would be just finishing shrines and collecting koroks. no thanks. the combat, my main complaint, is not satisfying at all. I would have gladly traded flurry rush for a robust combat system, at least a modifier to links attacks. Arms so far has kept me going because I actually like the characters and the mechanics. Now im just waiting for Odyssey. Im not interested in rpg's or shooters, so splatoon i wasnt interested in and xenoblade didnt catch my attention. I understand that porting isnt just a push of a button but dont make me wait months for a game that was released a while ago on other consoles. there are so many great games that could have been ready to release for the switch in these past few months, but nope.

So yes, if you really love Zelda and Splatoon, and don't mind other support being indies and bombers like USF2 or Fate/Extella, then it's fantastic, surely.
