Haven't been part of /vp/ since SM got leaked so I wouldn't know for sure. What sort of context does he get flak in? Are we talking competitive scene/threads or just in general?

It just feels lazy. It's a recolor of Midday form's model with extra hair and the same animations. They hyped up its' reveal like it was going to be hot shit and then...the rest is history.

I mean I couldn't care less about it but I can see why people who were expecting something new and exciting got let down.

Sure, it might end up being BW2 in terms of quality. But so far we're just underwhelmed by how little we know about these games.

These are both the extremes. S/M trailers, stupidly, showed off almost all the new pokemon along with other features.

To me it "clearly" shows that they had a new form to market and thus decided to give an allegedly popular mon to the protagonist to market it.

The only really bad one there is marshstomp and that's because it was never likely designed to exist in 3d.

Because it's literally the laziest thing you can do in terms of introducing a new form. They took Midday Lycanroc and slapped Midnight's hair on it. They didn't even try to make it look unique, it's just a scruffier Midday.
