Finding a community for a game I enjoy really sparked my interest again. Lately I've been playing through the Fire Emblem series while hanging out in the /vg/ thread and it's been a lot of fun.

Sometimes it also helps playing something that is just easy to get into. My latest favorite is Death Road to Canada.

In all honesty I think it's less related to growing up and more related to it being a hobby. Everyone gets tired of their hobby once in awhile, even people who are at world record level at whatever they are doing. Find something else to do for awhile. Playing video games isn't a job. If you don't play for fun, what's the point?

AAA games are largely the same fucking shit with minor differences. The industry has these standards they conform to that make the games all blend together because theyre designed to be marketed and manipulative.

For a beginner id recommend 2c-b or metocin (legal) and games like ABZÜ. Then when youve gotten comfortable with the psychedelia get yourself some LSD or 1P-LSD/AL-LAD (legal) and replay some games youre nostalgic for. Nothing can revive your childlike sense of wonder like acid does, nothing. Keep the dose low to medium and youre gonna be amazed by every leaf on every tree, every detail on every item.

Now that I have a job, I'm working on catching up on all the incredible games that I missed out on the first time around as well as enjoying the great new games that have been coming.
Not to mention having certain games which I can keep on coming back to and improving my skills in for higher scores and better ranks.

I got into fighting games recently. I played Smash and shit growing up but I never actually put any time into fighting games. Recently got USF2 for the Switch and have been having a blast with it. Getting down combos and winning a fight online is pretty fun. It's something other genres can't really give you. Guess it releases some sort of chemical in my brain that my usual type of games can't. Plus the old neogeo fighters are pretty fun. Samurai Shodown is good.

try something different that's engaging & requires a lot of attention. an older, but great RTS like Company of Heroes has a learning curve that feels rewarding once you nail the controls down, yet is still approachable with an extensive tutorial & plenty of content.
