More or less, I suppose. Obviously, keep an eye out for any sort of motion, or colors that don't mesh - there be baddies. The issue there being, of course, that if you can see them, they can almost certainly see you, and they are most likely in a better position to fight back. At the end of the day, it tends to boil down to a game of twitch shooting.

And I can't stress this enough, pay attention to your audio. Footfalls, rustling, wood cracking, and the like mean that somebody's about to have a bad time. As others have said to, take advantage of drones and cameras. Situational awareness is your best friend.

I can't even imagine how fucking hard it must be to get into this game as a new player. I got this on launch and everyone kind of bumbled around figuring things out. By the end of the second month defenders finally realized it's a death sentence to stick everyone inside the objective room, and ACOGs started becoming more prominent.
Now you're coming straight into a game with spawnpeeking Jagers, floorbanging Bucks and all kinds of advanced strategies being played even in casual matches.

You can get some hilarious kills with Kapkan. He's not that bad.

The trick is to place the traps in unexpected spots. Ones at chokepoints will most definitely be spotted so place them in alternate routes to the objective. Never place them above ankle height and always put a barricade on the side that you put the trap on, unless you've got red carpeting or some other disguising floor color which is even better.

Hide your first drone near the objective if you can. Then use it to scope out the place after the round starts. If you lose it, or need to, you can sack it and pull out your second drone for checking a room out before you enter it.
Don't ever fucking ID enemies with someone's drone if it's clearly there as a make shift camera. It's kind of okay to ID from cameras on defense if you have a teammate who needs an exact bead on the enemy and can take advantage of the moment the enemy tries to shoot the camera.
Drones are huge.
