I tried a magnifying glass but it was dropping frames in game and super convoluted. Windows Borderless Gaming only works with windows that can be resized, not fixed borders like Grimoire. The text is super AIDS to read and even in full screen stretched it doesn't fit the aspect ratio and black bars into a pillarbox. Ideally something you can easily alt-tab out of. I'm miring the aesthetics but the tech behind the game is absolute fucking garbage.

So far, testing with stats:
Con has no effect at all on HP gain. Not entirely sure what affects it, but a Sage with 90 Con has 20% of the HP of a Warrior with 40 Con. In fact, the Sage is still liable to gain 2 HP per level even at 90 Con.
Dev has no effect at all on Magic gain. A character with 30 devotion can have the same if not more Magic than a character who has had 95~100 Dev for the past 5 levels. It also has absolutely no effect at all on Magic regen, this is based on Race and Level more than anything it would seem.
Wis has no effect on duration or power of buffs, and healing is entirely based on a die roll. This is between a 56 Wis Bard and a 100 Wis cleric, both had buffs of equal power. If wis does anything for spells, it might make it easier to apply status spells as suggested by another anon, but there is no way to test this as practically, and instruments are better regardless.
Int has no effect on damage of attack spells, this is purely based on dice roll/power level, and fizzles appear to be based completely upon Skill Level. It may effect skill point gain, but I have noted no difference in a 100 Int Sage, who seems to gain 6~20 Skill Points at starting int to 100 int, this appears to be more based on luck when they level than anything and can be savescummed.

Have not yet tested Str or Agi as there isn't too much of a practical way to test them, but Str does increase at the very least, max weight allowed.

DES has a chance of preventing death with a % based on the character's DES. With 80 DES, the character appears to avoid death with at least a 60% chance, while a character with 10 DES appears to avoid death with a 3% chance. This is testing with 100 deaths and is not entirely accurate.

This is testing between characters with 90+ 40 in comparable stats.

I'm finally getting a grip on this game. The early part can be especially unforgiving on your party before you level up. The start in sanctuary in particular can see you getting knocked hard once you enter the town if you happen to run into a trio of bugs. This game has a much smaller allowable margin of error than modern games. If something is presented to you in the form of items or hints you will pay for not utilizing it. Whereas more recent games will allow you to stumble ever on wards in spite of your carelessness Grimoire requires a more thoughtful approach. Mastering this has been part of the fun for me.

the spell DETECT SECRET - when do you know to use it? in order to beat the game do you use DETECT SECRET and SEARCH constantly? or does anyone have a pointer or hint with regard to the proper method of utilizing them instead of just spamming them

i guess the biggest thing I'm lost on is how the hell people figure out what certain things do. like I have the Amulet of Life and I had to watch a Let's Play to realize that you could literally resurrect characters with it! If I'd watched that shit like 5 hours of playtime ago I bet I could have like saved so much of my playtime. I actually kind of like the mystery of it, just wondering how the fuck people figure things out without cheating

There are multiple types of information for items. Basic description, detailed description (journal entry) and stats/effects.

For a basic (usually generic and vague, useless flavor text) description of the item, change a character's action icon to the Look icon (eye) then hold an item over it and click it. You will first need to have assayed the item to see this description.

I have a drake berserker. Very good setup. Sage is an absolute must, they are your support class. Feyfolk and durendil make the best wizards they have high mp regen.

My party is as follows. 1 dwarf warrior, 2 berserkers drake/giant 1 feyfolk wizard, 1 durendil sage, 1 human thief, and 1 wolfin ranger, ranger is good because they have lethal blow and can one shot shit with it, berserkers also get this skill.

Japs repeatedly copy Wiz 1-3 and just dumb it down. Golden era is 6-8. So basically with nips, you are not only getting the version of crawlers that aren't at their best, you are also getting an even worse version of said crawlers. It's not the worst thing ever, but it's not ideal either. I don't think what Japs are churning out is very representative of the best of the genre. The devs from dragon quest and their publishers even admitted their entire goal of creating the series was to create a CASUAL form of ultima and wizardry for people who couldn't handle playing them.
