I tried playing Zero for the first time recently and hated it
Did the series get better? It wasn't super awful but the structure of it (weird hub world, one off missions that disappear when you fail, feeding elves for power ups) felt distinctly un-megaman.

I hate how they turned Zero into a twink from X4 and on.

In X1 through X3, he's fucking huge. You need him side-by-side to X and Zero is substantially bigger than him, taller and wider. Then from X4 and onwards they slimmed him down and made him the same height as X, it's a travesty.

Thats kind of the point. It tried to be Mega Man Zero and not a rehash of the last 20 games. The sequels prune the things that didn't work and expand on the things that did, but as a first game in a new series, Zero 1 isn't that bad.
