This doesn't make any sense to me.
If a millennial is a person reaching young adulthood by the year 2000 wouldn't you assume they would build a pc with an optical drive regardless if it's practical or not because they grew up on physical media?
Me being a Generation X person have known and grown up on the idea that you can get just about anything in digital format, be the ones not to get it?
I mean regardless, I don't have one in my pc but I have one in my old laptop in storage if I ever needed it.
>>
>>386681073
I still have a 3.5" floppy drive I transfer into every new rig I build. It's my good luck charm.
>>
>>386683596

Hook that shit up outside of your case with the panel open like someone that isn't a bitch then just unplug it when it's done reading something over the next five hours.

It's quicker to just mount shit on an ssd with a main rig and then boot to that. Oh you just have one computer lol.

>>
>>386681497
Considering 80% of all PC games require a secondary DRM service (Steam,uPlay,Origin, etc.), wouldn't matter if we had the physical games or not.

Plus, next to no one owns a Blu Ray drive in the PC (I do because I am an idiot) and games like Ghost Recon Wildlands and D44M would be on five DVDs easy at this point.

I used to always have some kind of optical disc drive in my computers, but with my last one I realized that I basically never use the thing anymore.
My current computer doesn't even have dvd/bluray/whatever drive.
I just don't use them anymore.
Flash drives are smaller, hold more, and are more durable than optical discs, and computers these days come with built in flash drive support from the bios.

I never thought I'd say this, but optical discs and drives are a relic of technology.

Shit, nintendo switch games use tiny potato chip sized cartridges, and they're not like n64 carts that had barely any space.

>consolebros think there's a real difference

I will admit that the physical copy of games is nice in that it's not bound to an account, but with the rise in percentage of each video game that is DLC and IS tied to an account, the value of a physical copy is declining. Also, most console games download a huge portion of the game as well as patches after the fact anyway.

So basically console bros are just slower at getting cucked by DRM.

I have a bluetooth version I use in my car because it doesn't have an aux input and it's too expensive to replace because I have a touch screen that controls the GPS, climate, & stereo which is stock. I'd have to replace all of that to get the same functionality.
>>
>>386681073

It doesn't. Mine used IDE. My current motherboard only has SATA. It didn't seem worth buying another drive or a PCI card, considering I hardly used it anymore.

>>386703019
Yeah, it's easier to do frankenstien shit like that sometimes. In the past I've had a couple of PC towers sitting right next to each other using the power supply in one case to power the hardware in the other because it was only a temporary thing. It's not quite Joker level craziness, it's smarter than wasting your time on a temp setup.

That said m8.

Reset the CMOS battery. Will put the BIOS back to factory default but won't help if the BIOS is passworded.

Yeah, well it's about 3 years old now, so it's out of warranty. I called and complained and they basically told me to fuck off. Doesn't help that the CD/DVD drive is fucked as well. I shipped it off for a failed hard drive before, they fixed it, but it came back with a crapped out dvd/cd drive. Moral of the story is don't buy shit from Acer I guess.

>>386704572

I considered doing a reset, but I can boot live OS's just fine, so I don't want to risk fucking that up as well. I'm hoping that if I get a new hard drive, I can just install Ubuntu on it and be on my way. The live boots are fine for now, but it's very limited as you can imagine. Still, Ubuntu's live version has a MS office-like suite, and I can watch Youtube/Browse 4chan. It's a fine solution for the time being.

I just go to the ups store if I need to print shipping labels which is the only thing I ever need printed

How they keep getting away with this? AMD's graphic cards and some laptop motherboards have been found in the latest years to have huge issues with updating drivers (from minor image glitches to total system corruption) and which most of the time don't show until several years later (my netbook from 2013 only started showing it after january 2016, the most up to date I can be on video drivers is december 2015), and it was found out that all the instances came from the same cause; faulty soldering during fabrication.
After a massive amount of threads in the support forums (which are community driven only) the AMD staff actually went in and stated that either you go to the retailer or the pc's manufacturer with your warrant or fuck off; and prohibited more threads of the same issue to be made again and closed all the old ones.
So, yeah, don't buy from AMD either, I guess.
>>386706641
Actually half the responses are all right and the other half are ironic.

Why the fuck would you need one when you can by games from steam and download them?

>hey guyz i'm smart cause I can pick out correct answers n shit
Too bad 5 answers actually fit with 2 being correct about its application, and 3 with partial name matches. That means either 0, 3, or 5 can be considered correct, but not 1. The one you are claiming to be correct doesn't reference what revision it is considering it can be a 1.1 or a 2.0, but it isn't a 3.0.

We used to use them to transfer video files in high school between eMacs/mac minis because for some reason our school thought it would save money by going with Apple. This was around 2008, but it's funny that USB 3.0 just blows it out of the water now.

At least it isn't as bad as everyone claiming to be a 90's kid. I mean a fucker will be less than 18, meaning they never even existed in the 90's, yet they will claim to be a 90's kid just because they play a couple of old games.
