What do you think hl3 will be like? A game like half life 1 and 2 wouldn't survive very long in today's over saturated market since its basically only a linear shooter with some physics gimmicks. For the time back then it was awesome cause the physics and shit were something totally new but I feel like releasing a sequel for hl in today's time would be a really bad idea since it would only appeal to those "nostalgia hl/hl2" Fans and nobody else would touch it. Really, nothing in Half Life 1 is dated or old, all of its shooting mechanics are pretty much the optimum way to handle an FPS. Being able to hold every weapon, being able to quickly switch weapons, no necessary ADS, a handful of optional firing methods.

I just can't stand the trend of 2 weapon limits, necessary ADS, automatic weapons with little to no recoil killing humanoid enemies in seconds.

Half-life 3 will only come out if valve gets into financial trouble, people stop using steam or something like that. HL2 is the most overrated game of all time. Innovative and beautiful for its time, it's an unfun slog most of the time. All of the guns minus the shotgun and gravity gun, and maybe the crossbow, feel like impotent pieces of shit and enemies soak damage without reaction until they suddenly ragdoll wildly across the level. The game couldn't stop jerking itself off over its physics so you have a few dumb "make a seesaw with trash" "puzzles." Not to mention the IMMERSION meme where you are forced to just stand in a room listening to someone talk at you with no way to move it faster than to hit the NPC over the head with a book repeatedly in lieu of actual cutscenes that can be skipped. I do actually like the vehicle segments since they give the world breadth and scope and have some fun setpieces associated with them, but they can drag on for too long.

Half-Life 1 is still fun to play though. Even with wonky platforming.

I think the difference is that in FF9, you're fighting fantasy characters with super powers. When Beatrix beats your ass it's with super flashy sword skills, because she could literally fight off an army on her own. It's not unbelievable to have her or Kuja use super skills or magic to blast you away. Because fantasy.

The annoying thing about the uncharted version is the games are more realistic in tone, so when you've got an unwinnable two on one fight between three people that have spent a good portion of their lives fighting, you need a good reason for that one to be so much better than the other two. Uncharted doesn't really seem to supply that from what I understand, just 'she's a mercenary lol'.
