There's basically no difference between ARPGs. I won't tell you to not buy Diablo III, but I will say look at other games like Path of Exile or Grim Dawn. You might like those as well

Diablo III is the least rewarding game I've ever played. Story is a mess, the script is painful, there's shit all to explore aside from more monsters and more of the same trash loot and coins.

TitanQuest was more rewarding than this, with caves and challenges and artifacts to combine for epic gear. There was a lot to collect. Torchlight even had at least better mechanics and more interesting abilities. The previous Diablo games had the proper necromancer.

I haven't played d3 so I can't compare but if you like arpg I strongly recommend path of exile, it's really good and a lot of people say it's better / on par with Diablo. And it's free.

It's quite alright, and the battle kinematics are probably the best in the genre.

If you haven't played the others, you won't feel the disappointment anyway and the bastardisation of the gothic horror scenery will not hurt you.

Go for it, it's good fun for a while. Reapers is a good expansion, haven't played the Necro DLC.

Other games like Torchlight or Titan Quest have a more novel take on things, but their fighting mechanics feel shite.

Absolutely, I've been playing the new season almost daily. The problem is how the game is structured. Harder difficulties ramp up the health and damage of enemies, so you need cookie cutter builds that stack damage bonuses several times over.

It's the most polished and easy to play arpg out there. Very good starting point for someone getting into the genre. However, compared to its competition, it lacks end game content and mechanical depth. Still fun though.

Diablo 3 for easy playability and chill. It's alright. Necromancer DLC is a bit expensive though.
