Did some more work on this side of the map. The playable area is about 170 x 130 meters. Getting 80-100 fps on a midrange PC and 40-60 fps with the high definition shadows turned on.

I've used GMS extensively, nigga. It really is just a piece of shit and Yoyo Games is full of lazy assholes. If you want to make use of anything more advanced than loops in GMS, you're going to run into problems and you can't rely on Yoyo to fix their shitty program. HTML5 and phone support is still completely fucked for one.

Just use anything else and you should be fine.

I've heard a lot of shit about GMS2 from people who actually bought it. I'm not sure about all the details, but I do know simple shit like compiling to iOS simply didn't work.

Considering YoYo has actually gone back to support GMS1.4, it doesn't seem like they're even that confident in GMS2 themselves.

Wanna make a 2d, sprite based game? It is *the* best option on the market outside of building your own engine.

And building your own engine comes with the extra cost of time. GM is great for rapid prototyping ideas.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you its limited. You can make just about any kind of 2d game you want in it, if you know what you're doing.
