ITT: Sweaty muscle men solve their issues by beating the living shit out of each other

So I bought a second hand copy of SmackDown! vs. RAW 2010 because it was only 2 euros, and I wanted to see if the "newer" rasslin games are good as the old ones. Goddamn, this is the most fun I have had in years. I hate sports games, but these WWE games have always been fun because of their customization and the over-the-top action.

I heard SvR 2010 is one of the last classic-arcade type of WWE games that doesn't take itself too seriously. I heard the new WWE 2k games don't even have season mode where you can play as your own character, which is baffling because that was easily one of the best things about these games.

What is objectively the best wrestling game? Which one of these WWE games is a game where I can:
>create my own wrestling promotion with custom painted logos and custom arena with my custom logos
>schedule my own shows, fill the roster with my custom wrestlers with their own custom gear/signs/merch etc.
>still have "plot" and drama surrounding the show, not just spreadsheets of the simulated matches

WWE universe should be something like this, right? SvR 2006 had a general manager mode, which was kinda neat, but then again kinda dull because it was literally just spreadsheets. SvR 2010 has a paint tool that you can use to paint your own logos and whatever. I know SvR 2011 has a universe mode, but can you replace the current existing promotions with your own and replace the roster with your gallery of CAWs?

btw. I haven't watched wrestling since the late 90s and the early 00s which I guess was considered the "attitude era", so I know nothing about what's currently going on. I kinda dislike the new look of WWE, too shiny and glossy with all those animated panels and whatnot. Sometimes less is more.

I also haven't watched wrasslin' since the mid 2000's, but I tried one of the new 2K games and they're absolute dogshit. They've removed all of the fun sandboxy elements that made the THQ/AKI games so much fun to try and turn a literal soap opera into a simulation game. They suck shit.

Go play 07 if you liked 06. I treat them as duology of great SvR games because I loved the story modes, with 08 being okay in that department, but there are some problems with it.
The Day of Reckoning games, which was an actual Duology, focus a hell of a lot on Story mode, which I loved, & I wish the WWE game went back to, but they haven't really hit a good quality with that, & are only slowly fixing the problem.
Also. The old games look better & you can see them by just comparing Booker T & a few other characters, they get white as shit in the newer games.

Well it's new to me. The last wrestling game I played a lot was Smackdown vs Raw 2006, and even back then I thought it wasn't as good as the early ones. SvR 2006 was probably the best gameplay wise because it was on the sweetspot of arcade and realistic. It's what I like in the SvR 2010 as well; arcade, but also kinda realistic.

What pisses me off the most in WWE games released after Here Comes The Pain is how the season modes repeat themselves. In HCTP if you won a title in season mode, you could continue playing as the champion in your new playthrough and defend your title for as long as you could.

I recently tried out one of the 2k WWE games, and they really were such downgrades to the THQ games. Sure they have nice glossy graphics, but apparently in expense of all the customization. I don't mind jagged edges and waxy looking action figure-ish character models as long as I can do whatever I want with the customization.
>>
>>386640698
I wish there was a good x360 emulator for those later SvR's that had god-tier CaWs from those autists who would perfect the system.
>>
The best of the "old" games is Shut Your Mouth.

The best of the "new" games is the first, Here Comes The Pain, with SvR 2006 a close second.

The best of the ACTUALLY new games (ie. since the "2K name" is WWE 2K16.

Fire Pro Wrestling World looks awesome, but does it have any kind of season mode or at least a mode where I can build and customize my own promotion, and then have simulated seasons etc.?
I want to create my own imaginary promotion that participated in monday night wars together with WWF and WCW.

>all those hours spent in Smackdown vs. Raw 2006

I had every single CAW slot filled up. I had my own tag teams, feuds, and merchandise. If only the game had the option to drawn custom logos and make custom arenas, that would had been the cherry on top. I loved how you could pretty much completely exchange the roster in HCTP with your custom wrestlers, I wish SvR 2006 had that possibility.

There was one case in SvR 2006 that completely surprised me:
>season/story mode
>royal rumble
>all the royal rumble participants are announced
>one of the participants is one of my custom wrestlers
>one of the ridiculous looking characters I made as a joke
>mfw

That never EVER happens in the game, except for that once. I don't know if it was a glitch or what, but that was weird as fuck. I have played the season mode through at least 20 times and no other time I have seen even a mention of any of my custom wrestlers, except the one I usually play during season mode.

I don't know what they're talking about, but the latest WWE 2k games I have played have been 2k14 and 2k17 on Xbox 360, and they're both literally the same game. I know the XO, PS4, and PC versions are the definite versions with new(?) content, but the xbox 360 versions are literally rehashed same old shit. They may have some new content, but I didn't bother to skim through everything to find something, because overall it looked and played exactly the other 2k wwe games.
Also, I have all the DLC on 2k14, and I would need to buy all the dlc to get all the wrestlers in 2k17, so fuck that shit. Shame on me I guess.

2k17 has new modes like backstage brawls and again is just a general improvement on that new next gen engine they've been trying to get working since 2k14

>>
>>386639870
Unfortunately there isn't a game with all these features at once.
Create your promotion stuff got really good in 2k14 which is the definitive pre-"simulation" era game, however servers are closed so you can't download stuff, you have to make everything yourself. Plus it doesn't feature the good next gen stuff like customizable attires. There's a lot of that kind of customization in the most recent ones as well, but if you like arcadey gameplay you're shit out of luck.
HCTP and SYM had amazing story modes and you could more or less edit rosters and stuff at the beginning, they're probably the closest thing. Also a familiar roster to you.

If you want the definitive customized experience you want FPWW, not 2k shit.

Why must this game suck? They could had just aped everything WWE games have done, and take it even further, but no. This was their shot at making good alternative for WWE games, and they fucking blew it. I know they tried very hard to give a good first impression; the game comes with TNA poster and even bonus DVD with wrestling matches, and all this in the regular edition of the game. Too bad the game sucks, so the bonus gear is just sad instead of awesome.

Never played WWF No Mercy, but I heard it's the best one. Is it really the best one? Why is it the best one? Gameplay looks fun, but is it really the most replayable and customizable wrestling game?
>>
>>386642615
it's not the best one
HCTP and SYM are the 2 best wrestling games. anything else is just nostalgiafags or fire pro autists who would rather watch cpu vs cpu fights than play the game.
>>
>>386642615
Nintendo emulators are made with the ability to dump textures and use custom ones. Because of this, No Mercy has a decent sized community of people modding the games. The game itself has a decent degree of customization. You could put a bikini on Kane if you felt so inclined.

That said, I wouldn't say it's the best. One of the earlier PS2 ones likes Shut Your Mouth is better. They had pretty expansive backstage areas, which the newer games completely removed.

>>
>>386642939
They got a big pop at Mania but it seems to be dying down a bit at the moment. The expectation is that they'll separate them because WWE always liked Jeff more as a singles guy. However, what people are particularly interested in is if Matt will be able to use the 'broken' gimmick he got over in TNA, since there's been a constant legal issue between him and them over the rights to it. He constantly hints to it on television but whether he'll fully be able to commit to it, or even do an altered version of it, is anyone's guess.

I spent years playing wrasslin' games back in the day. The direction these games have taken confounds me. I tried to play WWE 2K17, just out of curiosity, and it was full of fucking quicktime events that were more annoying than anything, like it gave you a nanosecond to hit X just so you could stomp on your opponent while they were down. I remember half the fun was mashing one button to break out of a hold or recover when you were about to be pinned, and now it's awkwardly waiting for a prompt for you to press a button.
