it's not about the general gameplay ideas, it's about the execution

just because ninja gaiden and souls both have dodge, block, hard hitting enemies, etc, that doesn't mean their combat even resemble each other.

The souls execution seemingly worked well enough that others developers try to make almost carbon copies of it. And then there is also the way exploration, looting, consumables, checkpoints etc. are handled in the game which are also carried over to other games.
