I wish more games used late 90s era 3D and texturing. When indie's started remaking classic 2D artstyles with modern updates (like Shovel Knight and Freedom Planet), I started hoping that maybe they'd move onto 3D, with games looking like they're from the PS1 or Dreamcast. But it seems like indie devs are either going to stick to pixel art or shitty premade modes from the Unity store. The only real example of a modern game using this artstyle is Power Drill Massacre, but that game is pretty shit imo.

There is this one game that is being made, which would allow you to choose between PS1, N64, and Dreamcast style graphics.
I would mention its name, but it's not done yet, so don't want to advertise something that may not come out.

pixel shit is easy as fuck to produce. Making a game that looks like silent hill is expensive, and everyone knows trust fun indie devs are talentless, and spend the money that aught to go into their game on child pornography and drugs

I know youre a retard shitposting on /v/ but those textures ARE pixel art. And models are easier to make than a sprite sheet.
>>386631537
There is this game called Banned Memories. It uses PS1 textures and shit. Check it out.

I've called for the same thing. I think Playstation and Saturn could be great aesthetics to follow. Textured facial animations are neat, and can be used to great effect.
>Silent Hill
>resident Evil 1-3
>Virtua Fighter 2
>Shenmue (Saturn demo)
>Mega Man Legends
>Metal Gear Solid
>Tekken 3
Now, I'm no nostalgia fag. I know that this era wasn't perfect. Take the low poly low resolution texture style, but fix the errors of the era. Give it solid 60fps, better camera, and better controls.
There's a mod for RE2-prototype which gives RE2 a battle mode in full 3D with over the shoulder aiming. Still heavily uses auto-aiming, but you can get a little better idea of the concept of a PS1 game with a more modern aiming system.

Due process has a pretty good art style but it's more like pixel art made 3D
This is at least partially why I made this thread, this channel perfectly shows what I've been wanting out of games

Look man, the vast majority of these indie remake games are trash visually. Back then actual artists worked on them, not lé indie artsy devs. That kind of style takes actual effort and hours of work every day, not 15 minutes in GIMP and some egostroking over how oldschool your game looks.
>>386632504
Not exactly, modeling is easier than pixel art technically. Pixel art is a lot of tedious back and forth.
>>386633121
I'd kill for a game that successfully rips off RE2/3 art style of prerendered backgrounds.
Honorary mention goes to Alone in the Dark 4. That shit looks awesome too.
>>386633414
It's low skill and low effort.
You don't know the half of it, OP.
THIS is what passes for "low poly" modelling these days. No textures AT ALL, faceted garbage with no smoothing groups, complete and utter lazy shit basically. Check /r/lowpoly and you'll see what I mean. Like 90% of what's posted there is in this "style".
PS1 era games look fucking awful you retarded hipster
>>386633524
No Garoud shading at least?
>>386633542
PS1 games with strong art styles look great.
>>386633542
I bet you havent played a ps1 game on actual hardware, on a CRT tv once in your pathetic lifetime

This looks like an pixar movie beta footage

Fugly: the game.
>>386633909
I'm 31, 90% of the 3D games on PS1 looked like garbage, that's the reason there's no revival in the style, even talentless indies could do it in unity
>>386631537
for me graphics didn't need to get any better than this I was fine with this
>>386633224
>>386633524
hey untextured lowpoly can be goood if done right.
I mean Look at Cryptic Sea's stuff (Sub Rosa and A New Zero)
>>386632474
Are you the creator? Please tell me the name of said game. Sounds interesting.
The DS had some nice low-poly stuff. I adore how the FFIV remake looked.
>>386634616
No.
And if it gets finished, you will hear about it. It's another of those 3D platfoormers.

Looks like a 3DO game.
>>386631537
Problem is that market is already saturated by kids who watched a couple of unity tutorials and downloaded some assets online
It's easier to make a 3d game albeit a terrible 3d game than a 2d one
