All the crafting systems boil down to numbers.
In leveling you can basically do the same general order of actions and do fine.
At the cap you use one macro for everything which is not different from just hitting "craft" in any other game, and when a recipe is high enough to require manual attention there's still one rotation that works every time.
It's nothing but bloat. The amount of skills crafters and gatherers have is ludicrous and over half of them can be ignored.
More importantly is that making crafting a minigame unto its own is retarded. Crafting should support the meat of the game - battles, but leveling both showers you in good gear and doesn't require good gear and at the cap there's only two real uses for crafting - gear for early raiding (which lasts for 2-3 weeks) and consumables (which are just stat sticks).

FF14 is full on for people who don't need good pvp or pve content. They literally make you pay for doing same shit day after day for some gimmicks you don't even need. 2k hrs into game, I log in everyday. tend to my garden, do some daily dungeons to buy gear I won't even need to later clear new dungeons that they'll add in new patches. People who shit on Red Mage being "Braindead" are clueless when it comes to game design. It feels that way because of how fantastically designed its job flow and mechanics are.
