This isn't an MMO. You don't need a dedicated person to do nothing but heal. Most characters can take care of themselves if used right.
The best healer in this game is one that can heal but also do damage and contribute in other meaningful ways. Machias is solid for that as his ATS isn't bad and he's ranged meaning he has a lot of free flexibility right there. But ultimately I'd argue Emma. The range, combined with the unique properties of the staff, the free analysis, the heals, and the early free line-shooter makes her a very flexible character. As mentioned earlier: the best healer is the one that can heal and do something useful. Not just heal.

Ao has a very rough but serviceable patch, last I heard. It has google translated NPCs but an actual translation for the main scenario. Failing that, you can also look at a spreadsheet with everything translated. It's not ideal, but it's doable if you're a really fucking hungry EOP like I am after beating 3rd.

Legend of Heroes 1&2 had a ton of story for 8-bit JRPG standards, but that's about it. JRPG stories began to surpass it in the mid-late 90s. They both share the same setting too.

The Gagharv trilogy (3, 4 and 5) technically takes place in its own world, but the games take place on completely different continents in completely different time periods and the stories don't overlap at all so it might as well be three separate games. Imagine Kiseki stories, but the stories were contained to only one game at a time instead of spanning across a ton of games.

Kiseki came from new-blood in Falcom who loved the Gagharv trilogy, but were ambitious and inspired by Suikoden in the sense of making a massive series with tons of games that overlap with eachother. There's a shitload of subtle Suikoden references in TiTS.

I'm assuming you're farther than chapter 2 already. There's a certain encounter in the basement that's likely to have one or more Slime Lumps. Kill them and you'll swim in Time/Space/Mirage sepith that sells for more than the regular elemental sepith. Mirage is pretty useless until late in the game, they are best for selling.
