This is almost completely endemic to RPGs. And I don't think the Power of Friendship trope works unless the game is singleplayer. You have to build up a story about friends working together to overcome something that can't be beaten physically. Like in Earthbound. Or Paper Mario: the Thousand-Year Door. Or any game where it's not possible to Git Gud enough to beat raw statistical superiority.
In a multiplayer game, it would come across as crass and ridiculous and not beautiful at all seeing as how the "friend" you fought with is right there.
