First issue I can think of is a PvE one, namely the fact that the combat engine isn't well designed for 1vX (like for honor?) , and the game really really likes throwing a lot of enemies at you at once. The controls for switching targets are really clunky and annoying

Added to the fact it takes a while to unlock all the slots in your combat deck the thing you're supposed to be building up the entire time and that the defense ability which has a whole can of worms of balance problems

Additionally, you know the perfect attacks they've hyped up? Well, since I can't go into detail, there's a reason they're done on the attack before the one that benefits from it, and it promotes a spammy playstyle, at least in the beta.

Weapons/magic are incredibly powerful and easy to get, and in fact a certain combo let players get a completely free heal, which are again, very powerful. Swords get simply oppressive as you cannot be defensive against them, and they can be defensive against you. But, the ability to knock it out of your opponents hand is a very good balancing factor, although less so if you've never built a deck for the sword.

There isn't one heavy attack in this game that doesn't give twice the reaction time to respond to, not to mention blocking is cheap and efficient as fuck in this game. Parry is based on timing left or right for a counter attack, stops their combo.

Avoid is 4 directional, doesn't stop their combo but leaves more time for you to counter.

Absorb is one directional and still makes you lose health you can gain back by attacking, but its the simplest and the best for learning new moves.

There is a stamina system, defensive abilities give you stamina on successful use and there are guardbreak moves that eat your stamina away. Regular blocking is a basic one button thing, no high or lows.

Is there any point in absorbing during the first or second attack? Because I feel like, if you absorb the second attack, you're going to be stunned by the third one, and thus lose any purpose of the absorb.

Since people will obviously be open after the third attack, I would guess that you should only absorb and counter the third attack.

I think you may be misunderstanding how the deck system works

the strings don't end at the third hit, the third hit simply usually changes the persons stance, so they start doing the string on that stance without a pause or an "opening".

You're right that absorbing a hit is dumb if you know there will be a quick followup, but there is no strict rule dictating that it's the third or fourth hit that will determine your counter will go through, shit depends on how they build their deck and when a slow move appears.

yeah you have to hit them before they hit you, and depending on the strength of the attack you get more of the health back. It would be ideal to make your counters quick, yeah. Not every sequence you have has to start with a quick punch but you should know which stances have them and are available for you to counter with.

It's a pretty low reward, honestly.

The main advantage of khalt I found in the beta was that it made learning moves REALLY easy. No risk of screwing up the direction, the timing is pretty easy, it doesn't interrupt the combo so you can also absorb the next moves. In comparison to parry and avoid it's PvP utility seemed rather lackluster.
