Mizzurna Falls
Kowloon's Gate
I'd been compiling a list somewhere of interesting PS1/JPN games. Will try to find it.
>>386534980
racing lagoon is english in menus, its only the story dialogue that is in japanese. playable.
Panzer Bandit
A nice, Guardian Heroes' clone that proved PSX could do 2-d well.
less hectic, slowed down, more methodical version of Metal Slug with actual gameplay variety and some cool minigames. has coop.
Critical Blow
A not-so-great but decent fighter that has a nice one player, story mode.
under fucking rated
>gameplay a la Driver 2, neato physics
>decent car selection
>amazing weapon selection
>has coop where one player can drive while the other player shoots
>pretty big city for ps1 standards, more or less equal or slighlty bigger than Vice City
Cool, anime, all-girl 2-d fighting game. I wish I had gotten this game instead of the one that I got from the other all girl, anime fighting game, Asuka 120% when I was in high school. This one is a lot better.
>>386537919
speaking of shitty fighting games
came out pretty late tho, 2001 or so. basically smash with digimons
>>386537919
Hey Asuka 120% is good, the best version is on Saturn though
>>386538151
>the best version is on Saturn though
Well, the version I got (Final), the life meters took forever to run out so matches always took forever. Also special moves didn't take off that much more than regular moves did, I think. I'm guessing it wasn't like that in the Saturn version..
>>386538079
That sounds pretty fun. I might check that one out.
I miss that period. Around when PSX and Dreamcast were still alive.
>>386534690
Racing Lagoon is one of those games that prove how crazy Kawazu is, shame he's still chained by modern Squenix.
>>386536994
Shame it's so short.
One of the first PS1 games ever released and still one of the best
>>386539743
Jesus Christ this one was fucking terrible.
Imagine a more arcadey version of Sim Tower
>>386540421
ahhh yes.
this shit and it's sequel were so fucking good
>>386540637
Man, I love this game, amazing gameplay and art.
I'm still butthurt crapcom forgot about it completely, can't get it even on JP PSN.
>>386540891
I thought that Syphon Filter is a really known game. Really good, especially the second one, the third is my least favourite, but still good. I remember when I had a PS/PC cafe near my house in my childhood, and me with my friends used to go and play coop for SF 2.
I think this is the best thread to ask, does anyone remember a mecha game, where you played mostly in tanks. You had to conquer other planets from other mechas (they were black/red, and you were white/blue). The goal was to destroy a really tall tower that acted as a command center, in some missions you could mount your tower and destroy the enemy.
One of the best third person shooters on the platform with an amazing soundtrack to boot.
>>386541168
ive only ever seen SF mentioned in "games only you played" threads, from what ive heard it was overshadowed by MGS on release
the part i remember most fondly was the train chase from 2, and that god tier soundtrack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF61E_JgdHk
Ever wanted to go SANIC FAST with a rollercoaster car? Now you can!
>>386538079
That was the hypest shit.
Also, Brigandine a RPG no one ever talks.
>>386541439
SF's gameplay is superior to MGS in every single way.
Literally.
>>386541635
In combat yeah, but I think you're being too harsh on MGS
I think it goes like this
SF-MGS-Splinter Cell
Going from action to stealth
One of the best PS1 shmups that nobody ever played,it was cheap as fuck on release too.
The game revolves around beating stages as fast as you can while avoiding getting hit since it makes you lose a ton of time.
>>386541635
>last game in the franchise ended with aGabe dyingcliffhanger and the devs are now making zombie shooty #2574
it's not fair
>>386541762
If you compare pure stealth levels from SF1/2 to MGS, they fucking blow the fuck out of MGS1. Teresa hospital escape mission? Sneaking around the base as Logan, only to perfectly time a jump in order to grab onto a side of a passing truck to the next side etc, MGS had no sneaky levels like that. MGS is essentially a 2d pacman game.
The only thing MGS got on SF is overall attention to autismal detail and crazy story.
>>386542008
I sort of enjoyed those psp/ps2 ports. Mediocre shooters but fun.
Gabe dying unnerved me a lot.
>>386542039
>tailing Phagan through the museum
that was some hard shit, took kid me hours just to get to the first checkpoint
>>386542039
I never played MGS, but now I don'tknow when I see your post.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI10urg3_bk
It had a good foundation. I wonder why Enix didn't work on its premise and continue the series.
>>386542039
Don't forget the first mission in 3, sniping chinese mafia from a room in the hotel in front of the one they're having a meetup and then escaping from it.
The PS1 answer to Starfox 64 and Panzer Dragoon
>>386541635
Girdeux > The Fury
>>386542671
I feel like 3 is underrated a lot. Sure, it dropped the stealth aspects and it was very rooty shooty but man it had memorable missions.
>intro mission you named
>that part where you are leading a convoy during nighttime and clearing the mines before getting ambushed in that ridge
>afghanistan(?) maze-like mission where you run around urban environments with a sci-fi version of AUG that can shoot through walls, only to have to figure out how to disable a fucking tank in the end
>hard as balls preggo chick escort mission
SF trilogy was the tits.
>>386542820
Why not colony wars?
>>386542820
You mean Star Ixiom.
>>386542890
>it dropped the stealth aspects
Not really that much, you named the Afghanistan mission but you didn't mention that is ridden with snipers, so the optimal way to clear that is sneaking around tunnels and ruined buildings while sniping them from safe points where they can't see you, same with other missions, and let's not forget the fucking last stage in the train or the multiplayer with those great arenas.
>>386543121
Yeah sure, you sneak around but you barely ever get the "dont kill anyone" mission parameter. Speaking of which, mission parameters were a badass game feature.
p-pls tell me I was not the only one who sunk hours and hours into this
Micromachines v3 was pretty cool
>>386541439
>Yeah, the first act was really good, the whole stranded in the mountains atmosphere with a lot of enemies and whole envoys of guns/cars really makes you feel like you are up to something impossible. Especially the disarming of bombs on the bridge. I also enjoyed the Moscow levels quite a lot.
>>386543181
>you barely ever get the "dont kill anyone" mission parameter.
That's right, but you didn't really get those for the first two either, isn't it?
I mean, I'd play the two Tenchu games if I wanted that kind of gameplay.
>>386542946
Because its not a railshooter?
>>386543121
Star Ixiom is not a railshooter either.
Also another great game in the genre is Vanark, personally i think its even better than Gamera 2000.
>>386543376
>that final showdown with Chance
>realising he's fucking bulletproof
>>386543495
Oh yeah, my bad.
>>386534980
Is Mizzurna Falls translated?
They say they finished translating a year ago but I cant find a fucking download
>>386543648
I remember I got to that part only once as a kid, and by the time I had to fight him I wasted my grenade launcher's ammo on the guys I had to fight in the parking on the way to him and had no idea how to kill him. Thats how I quit the game on the last mission.
Anyone played this?
Also, keep posting the good stuff bois. Best thread right now.
>>386544189
Sadly, I only played Red Sun.
>>386544152
You fire the usas12 until you knock him into the helicopter tail, which is bullshit because fucking bullets would cause more damage.
>>386544340
I already know that, not so long ago I replayed it, but back in the day I thought that I tried everything and nothing worked, so I thought that the grenades were the answer but unfortunately I was out of them
This one is kinda unknown, but I liked it. A nice RE clone.
>>386544503
Fug, that must have been a horrible feeling.
>>386544573
Looks somewhat like Dino Crysis, but I know its not it.
For some reason reminds me of the first level from Dino Crysis 1.
>>386543794
The project is still alive but the process of adding the translation into the game is taking a lot of time
Another good obscure game is Power Shovel by Taito
>>386544189
I played Red Sun, atmospheric as fuck.
>>386544629
Well, I was somewhat upset but not that much. I already got my full enjoyment out of the game so I was happy.
>>386544718
>Mizzurna Falls
Just looked on google. Looks ahead of it's time.
Is it true open world?
>>386542629
It did have a sequel, Dance Summit 2001, that was on the Japanese PS2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=as4Z0EmF_Yg
I thought BaG part 2 was pretty inferior compared to the first one. The first one had better dancing and music imo.
>>386544718
>Another good obscure game is Power Shovel
>You'll never serve curry with a power shovel again
Why live
>>386541467
This game is awful, it just has an interesting aesthetic. Don't play it.
The best SRPG series ever is also on PS1,both games are quite solid but they are not as good as Langrisser 1 and 2.
Only 4 has been translated.
>>386534690
Shadow Gunner
A cool little mech game.
>>386542629
There were a lot of studios under Enix that made all kinds of experimental games during SNES/PSX eras
>>386543328
you aren't :)
>>386547504
what a fucking lewd print on cd
Coop was tits.
>>386548495
The vs mode was fucking intense.
>>386548453
this fucking game
I got a pirated copy of it back in the day on some made in tajikistan tier quality CD. It would take forever to load it, it would freeze every 30 seconds, audio would skip etc. But I still had fun with it. Great level design with shitton of shortcuts to be discovered, multiplayer was pretty fucking fun.
Sequel on the ps2 wasn't bad either.
Wachenröder translation when?
