To describe NieR: Automata and why /v/ doesn't really like it:

It's an incredibly niche game for a niche audience. It's major draw is immersing the player in a bizarre fantasy sci-fi world with a weird story and even weirder characters. It's like watching a really fucked up disney movie made for an older audience.

It's Story and Atmosphere over gameplay, and while it's gameplay is repetitive but satisfying it definitely pales in comparison to everything else the game has to offer. If you're not someone who can play a game solely for story and characters than it's not the game you should be playing.

It's not niche because of the story over gameplay, it's because the game is really fucking weird and it's not necessarily everyone's cup of tea.

Not everyone wants to run around a barren world filled with cute little robots as a half naked android involved in a batshit insane conspiracy. That's understandable, and it's easy to see why someone wouldn't enjoy this game. All of Taro's games are rather obtuse and all over the place like this, which is why his games don't have the huge fanbases of something like Final Fantasy or Call of Duty.

I'm not trying to use the excuse that it being niche somehow makes up for or explains some of it's flaws, if that's where you think I'm coming from. It's a very flawed game regardless of it's nature.

While it' not perfect, I think it illustrates my point well enough. There's a clean line that seperates bodily features, the head from the neck, and the parts of clothes, the strap from the shirt. You just need a little differnce between each seperate part, and you can make the whole thing better show what the shape of the object you're minimalising is. On the witch picture, having a seperation between her coat collar and her shirt color can make a world of difference
