I don't think it's just Miyamoto, I think it's that a lot of Nintendo employees don't stand up to him and take every single one of his statements as literal and as unquestionable gospel. They still could have made a good Paper Mario despite Miyamoto, but they went full retard and just removed absolutely everything fans liked about the series.

It's a shame because M&L was only particularly good with the first game while PM got at least one good sequel. Sadly PM did weird shit on its own with SPM which made it prime for retooling.

A world where IntSys kept making games like the first two PMs and AlphaDream moved on to original IPs would've been better.

DT actually is my favorite combat-wise. I do recognize the subpar story littered with fetch quests however.

Personally I think PiT "killed" the series. I don't think its bad, I think its honestly decent, but it set a standard for the combat that personally I feel didn't get rectified till DT where Bros. Attacks came back as Luigi attacks. I hate Bros. items. They're just fucking lame.

My only gripe with DT is some bros/luiginary attacks feel like they take longer than they need to. I've picked up PiT recently after dropping it a while back and am actually enjoying it, bros items and all, but maybe that's just because I'm also enjoying using baby attacks in tandem with regular attacks.
