Is the PSvita the current day dreamcast?
>abandoned after 2 years
>few people own it
>considered a commercial failure
>dedicated community
>games being made for it after death
>people who have it love it
>first system of it's kind to have a good online play
>>
sorry kid the system your mom bought for you is trash
>>
>>386504954
hey i recognize that wall

its only abandoned outside of Japan anon.
And it was abandoned because the only people willing to play mobile games in the west are literal children. (nintendo fans)
>>
>>386504954
a 540p OLED screen for $250 in the age where $600 phones just started to roll out 1080p AMOLED and iphone was still shitting out garbage resolution for the same price.

such a great portable, good specs and by far the most comfortable handheld to hold. the games were a bit too expensive at launch and nothing really solid.
>>
>>386504954
>dedicated community
not in America
>>
>A commercial failure

In one market, unlike Dreamcast which failed in every market
>>
>>386504954
Man I wish I could find a local store that sold vita accessories. I don't want to have to order a trigger grip case for it but it seems its my only option
>>
>>386504954
but it literally gets more games than switch
>>
>>386504954
No, because dreamcast actually had good games.
>>
>>386505636
The L2/R2 grip for the 1000 is actually more expensive than the console now. Fucking ridiculous.
>>
>>386505912
I saw a few on amazon that was just silly. I have a 1000 and a 2000 but only really need the grip for the slim which is only 30 burger bucks thankfully.
>>
Is Soul Sacrifice worth playing? I'm not into MonHun stuff but I've heard the story is amazing.

In the US, yes. It's still fairly popular in the Japan, so it's not a total failure.
>>
>>386506338
Skip SS and go straight into SSD. It has the entire base game in it anyway.
>>
>>386506338
im currently playing Soul sacrifice delta, and seemns very good in terms of gameplay, and the story so far is interesting imo
>>
>>386506338
>>386506464
is it somewhat active online? i remember i bought it for cheap years ago
>>
>>386506607
Not really, no. The only Vita game that's still kind of alive is Killzone Mercenary.
>>
>>386506721
what about freedom wars? i used to love that game. is killzone on vita just a regular FPS shooter? i'd be okay with that

Vita is a commercial failure but a goldmine for any gaming enthusiast or person who enjoys games in general and isn't a idiot.

Pick ups I'm getting later when they release: Danganronpa 3, Summon Night 6, Ys VIII, Chaos;Child, Romancing Saga 2 and 3 Remake.

Highly recommend games on it: Soul Sacrifice Delta, DJ Max Technika Tune, Vanillaware games: Dragons Crown, Muramasa, Odin Sphere, Grand Kingdom. Persona 4 golden, Danganronpa games, Ys memories of Celceta, Atelier Shallie/
>>
>>386506607
i see few people playing online but lots of JP players. i never played it online tho.
>>
>>386506794
it honestly should be one of /v/'s preferred platforms. another reason being "it's not as popular"
>>
>>386506785
Freedom Wars is even more dead than SSD. Killzone Mercenary is great. Controls really well too. Makes me wonder why Sony hasn't implemented the same motion controls across the board since PS3 and PS4 both had motion controls.

We had two Dreamcast this gen and honestly both were the best kept secret of the generation. I had the most fun with the WiiU, Vita, and my 3DS early on this gen.
>>
Are there any good 3D action games I can play on my Vita?
>>
>>386506794
Did Vanillaware have anything to do with Grand Kingdom? I know they worked on the Grand Knights History but the art in Kingdom looks a different style.
>>
The hardware was god-tier
the OLED screen on the first-gen model looked amazing
dpad was amazing
very comfy system in general
>>
>abandoned after 2 years

Abandoned by Sony? Yes, But It's still getting more games from third party when compared to the WiiU

Depends on what you like and already have.

We're in a vita thread so I'll offer up a JRPG first. #TMS has a really great combat system and level up system. If you're a purist and your WiiU is hacked you can play it in english without the censorship.

The Dreamcast had games up until the very end, third-party exclusives even. Not every console that shits the bed a few years into a generation is a Dreamcast.
>>
>>386504954
It's very popular and we'll supported still in Japan. It's only here in the West that Sony showed it no love. From the very beginning it got no support, which is a shame because it's such a great handheld. I'd say it's better than Switch honestly.

Not pictured: Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros U, Wind Waker HD, Monster Hunter 3U, Rayman Legends, Hyrule Warriors, Kirby Rainbow Curse, Fatal Frame

Not recommended but in my collection: Star Fox Zero (Guard is fun though), Mario Party, ZombiU, Lego The Hobbit in general, and I havent actually played Ninja Gaiden yet so I can't comment on it.

The Dreamcast had stellar first party support until the end of its lifespan and the Vita got abandoned by Sony in like 2013. Not every console that shits the bed a few years into the generation is a dreamcast

For a system that gets constantly shit on by both gamers and retailers, it sure gets a lot of games. The trade off is having to direct mail order from publisher for SEs or finding an indie game shop willing to stock Vita games in meaning quantity.
>>
>>386504954
I always wanted it to keep going so we could get a second ps2 renaissance. what with every dev whining about how high development costs are.
>>
>>386509738
It's not that popular in Japan. It's only sold around 5.5 million in six years.
>>
>>386511881
Remote play is actu pretty good desu play xiv on pc and get 60fps and stream to the vita. I have no problems with frames or quality when streaming dragons dogma and i have a shit router.
>>
You can get old ps1 and ps2 classics there like ratchet and clanks and jak and daxters.

Its pretty comfy to play with it.
>>
>>386504954
after my first vita died I went ahead and got a refurbished one to replace it. I did this because we still have a few important vita releases coming out: muv luv, muv luv alternative, chaos; child, danganronpa 3, and tokyo xanadu which is sitting on my shelf. I love the vita for VNs or story heavy jrpgs, I wish they would port more vns that aren't otome games.
>>
>>386512398
It's great playing older titles on it. I played through the old fromsoft titles on my fat vita last year and it was great. Playing ps1 and psp games in bed is always nice.

From what I've read in this thread Vita owners seem to be chill as hell, that's pretty cool considering I've just been awared to some of it's games. I think I'm gonna get one
>>
>>386512792
This. Only if it would have them all.
>>
>>386513028
we can only hope that switch carries on this tradition after vita dies out.
>>
>>386513106
A hacked vita has access to a large library of older games. Even vitas with newer firmware can run psp homebrew if i am not mistaken. So right there you can play all your ps1 and psp games.
>>
Is there chances sony will make a new handheld anytime soon with BC to the PSP and Vita?
>>
>>386510148
After playing persona 5, thats the first thing someone said about the game that makes me wanna play it.
>>
>>386513215
Let's hope so I have been holding off on getting one until smt gets a release date
>>
>>386513291
does hacking it cause any problems with playing legit game carts, especially ones that require patching?
>>
>>386513367
Highly doubtful.
>>
>>386513469
Yea, if a game requires fw above 3.60 you won't be able to play it. It's an unfortunate downside and no news on if we will be able to play newer games on it.
>>
>>386513614
Ok I won't do it then, unless I can bring my old vita back to life somehow. Still waiting on a number of new releases.
>>
>>386505150
>Games too expensive at launch
They literally haven't changed price, they've been $40 or less since day 1.

I like my Vita, and there's not been a better time to get one than now. Lots of games released and some still coming out and you can use SD cards with it now (assuming it's hacked). Best solution is buying a PSTV for new games + a hacked Vita for everything else. VitaTV is like $40 or less now.
>>
>>386513732
If you just want ps1 and psp games though it's safe. Also can hack pstv to play all vita games and homebrew.
>>
>>386513291
I was under the impression you still needed old firmware for psp/psx games.
>>
>>386514389
can you start playing on pstv, and then switch the game over with the save file to the portable vita easily?
>>
>>386514769
If both systems are hacked yes otherwise you would probably just use the cloud storage feature
>>
>>386514610
From what I have read you can run vhbl on up to 3.63 hadn't checked on it in a while though. So you can't install enso but can still get into the psp emulator and run homebrew inside of it.
>>
>>386510008

dreamcast was never considered a commercial failure. sega just ran out of money to fund it. the vita is basically the saturn without the arcade games

I'm trying to get into it, but half the fucking maidump games I got are still in moonrune so I gotta find the right torrent.

Is there an english patch for Caligula and Tokyo Xanadu yet vitabris?
>>
>>386516834
well it's also on a tiny screen comparatively and much older and smaller hardware, so I'd hope the ps4 version would look better. in exchange, the vita version is cheaper and you can play it wherever you want. I don't think there's a wrong choice here, it depends on what you want for this type of game, I don't see how it's "AIDS" to get it on vita.
>>
>>386504954
It wasnt even abandoned after 2 years though.
More people owned it than a Wii U and it still gets games
>>
>>386519184
People are retarded and think a portable version is a bad option because alternatives exist.
