What does /v/ think about the Mentor System in FFXIV? Should

The vast majority of mentors did it just to get the status symbol, not because they want to mentor anyone.

Never tried it as I don't have the time to walk newbs through everything.

But considering how many people poopsock even when there is nothing to do, seems like a good way for them to spend their time.

It's pointless in current shape because of the leaf requirement.
It's first week of play time, there isn't much advice to be given during that time to someone who managed to find and join it in the first place.

Job based mentor channels would be much better. You finish your level 70 quest, you get access to that channel, you learn to play. And then mentors are people who did EX/Savage on that job.

Mentors are a cancer and the system should be removed from the game, or at least locked behind some kind of test of skill instead of time.

Had a DPS mentor yesterday in expert roulette as healer. He stood in every AoE he possibly could, then told me I needed to manage my MP better. I started Rescuing him out of them and he still didn't get the hint, actually telling me to stop "trolling" him. Healer queues aren't enough of a time saver to have to deal with this shit.

Also take ALWAYS take True North role skill. Basically your Role skills should be almost always be like this:True North, Feint, Second Wind, Diversion, Bloodbath.
Use True North when phase with a lot of movement happens, like that in 3rd phase when you need to running on other side of the platform and back happens.
Use Feint on huge aoe abilities like that Ukehi or Dimensional Wave so that your dumb cutslut healers didn't wipe you because they can't press more then one button
Use Diversion before opener so your shitter tank could handle your burst.

Mentors have all been cunts from my experience. When I was a newbie WHM, I had just unlocked Cure 2 and didn't realise it wasn't supposed to be a replacement for Cure 1. The next dungeon I was running I kept running out of MP during boss fights. The Mentor waited until right before we left at the end and said to me "you're so fucking bad just uninstall the game".

Mentor crowns are the single biggest red flag in the game. 3/4 mentors are worse people/players than sprouts.

They need to change the crown to a watering can, or a book or maybe a mortarboard or something.
