It's better to get one now compared to the start of the generation. If you want a ps4 now there's a slim model, it's cheaper than the launch console and there are way more games to play.

OP my guess is there still will be a couple of years before the next gen. So you can get one and enjoy new releases apart from getting older ones. I got my ps4 this year because of budget.

Buying consoles late is one of the best decisions you can make.
