UI is fine, the problem is there's no manual to explain everything. Little things like right clicking a character's action symbol to get a drop down menu of everything they can do seem obvious but aren't to some people.

The inventory is also fine once you get some bags to hold your shit. The default inventory system is a pain in the ass as it should be with your characters carrying everything around loose. Eventually you'll have a bag for potions, a bag for weapons, a bag for key items, etc.

You certainly have a right to dislike the game's aesthetic, but there's no denying it's authenticity which is what the target audience wants.

Grimrock is straight up garbage. The food mechanic is just a nuisance and it isn't even turn based. On the hardest difficulty you can just kite literally 80% of the mobs around in a square.

The story is non-existent, the classes are terrible and there is no DnD mechanics. It's just an awful game really, 2 is slightly better but the only thing it has going for it is graphics.

Is the writing in this game as lol-so-random as it seems from the steam page? A little absurdity is fine but I can't stand when a game is pumped full of memes. Wizardry 8 is an example of what I like, the entire premise is ridiculous but the writing itself and lore of the game takes itself seriously and that's reflected in the character dialogue.

As a separate point, how are the puzzles? The whole find key, use key in lock style bores me in gaming nowadays. Any puzzle that gets me to physically write something down would be perfect, does this game have anything like that?

As unbelievable as it sounds the story is legit good. There's a lot of world building going on everywhere and the setting is just cool as fuck, there's this underground citadel the dwarves were forced to build for their human masters and in the process of that they ended up uncovering an ancient spacecraft teeming with alien horrors. The setting is just a really cool merge of the eldritch and unknown invading a classic high fantasy setting. It's really neat.

My party is: giant warrior and saurus berserker for the frontline, dwarf metalsmith as backup frontline, aeorb sage, aeorb cleric, feyfolk bard, rhattu thief, drow thaumaturge. was probably going to drop some combo of the thief/cleric/necromancer eventually depending on the hireable NPC's and what they are capable of, but I can't even explore the town without instantly dying horribly. even if I use the gauntlet from the sanctuary, it tends to miss. Go with whatever you want, really, but ideally you'll want a fairy ninja for the best weapon in the game (start them as a bard if you don't want to reroll for ten hours) and at least a couple female characters for some of the exclusive items. The Wiz6 manual has all the starting bonus point costs in a handy table.

Personally, I'd recommend a valkyrie, a fighter, a mage, a cleric, a bard, and either a thief or a ninja, but that's just my opinion. Alchemists and monks are nice too, though I never really was too fond of rangers. Chances are you'll reclass everyone at least a couple times.

i've read some guides about things like, every character should switch classes 3 times during the game if you are carrying them to other wizardry titles, i just can't find solid information on why you want to do that, and what you should be changing into. You switch classes for spells and skills, generally. Stealth, for instance, is very useful to most classes, so dipping into thief or ninja isn't a bad idea, and kirijutsu is good for anyone in melee.
It's also quicker to level someone in both wizard and cleric than to grind out bishop levels, at least in Wizardry 6, and gives you more spells overall.

And don't worry, you won't fuck yourself over too hard unless you somehow end up carrying over a party with an average vitality of 5 or some shit like that. If you can survive one game, you're almost certainly good to survive the next one.

Some of the classes are essentially upgrades to previous ones, albiet with some changes and higher stat requirements.
Samurai have limited gear and level slower than fighters, but get spellcasting and kirijutsu, which is instakill criticals.
Ninjas have obscenely high stat requirements so they're not easy to get at chargen, but have fantastic AC, most of the Thief's skillset, kirijutsu, and alchemist spells.

Here's the thing man. If you're committing to a run from Wiz 6 - 8 that is a massive amount of time, and with respect you'll probably quit long before that.

If you do persevere, then the most important thing is that you enjoy your team. So make some decisions and see the benefits of them as you play, just try to keep things balanced rather than all warriors. If you just want the optimum party to steamroll with then I'm certain this isn't the game type for you, and you'll get bored quickly.
