Lost World was Sonic Team trying to branch out in a new direction but not having any firm, solid idea of what the fuck to do. So they played it ultra-safe thematically by ripping off Mario, butchered even standard Sonic gameplay to not have to deal with actual, honest to god physics while simultaneously not understanding why the Homing Attack worked as it was, and threw random gimmick ideas at a dartboard haphazardly with absolutely no concern about whether they fit the game or not.

I never liked the way the cutscenes were animated in the more recent Sonic games, especially when compared to the CGI intros. Can't Sega put a little more effort into them now that the game is going to have a bigger focus on story, on some shit? It looks sorta stiff and janky, whereas the CGI cutscenes have more of that smoother and bouncier cartoony style.

Sonic Unleashed really was the last game they put some real fucking effort into the whole package, even if it didn't come one so hot.
