4 was where I started. The overarching plot of the series isn't actually a huge deal unlike Metal Gear, especially for a game like 4 that focuses on a lot of new characters and their stories. I will say that having multiple protagonists with different styles spoiled my enjoyment on the earlier games a bit, though. And Akiyama is just too cool that I never saw the big deal about Kiryu.

The best idea is starting from 1 since the stories are connected to each game. But 4 still have recaps for all the previous games so you can have an idea of what is going on but not the experience of what Kiryu had to go through.
Beware that Yakuza 3's beginning will only feel right if you played the previous games. Even if you did you can find the start of 3 boring as fuck.

You shouldn't be so hasty playing them all so soon or in the row. You should take your time and play them at your pace, if not all those Yakuza games will worn you out.

Anyhow, you need to play 2 somehow, since it was the best experience until 0.

Not fucked at all, i started as 4 and, while it's clear from the first second that it's a rich setting with some story behind it, you're still eased into it by the new characters and feels like an absolute God when you get to play as Kiryu

That's how awful Y6 is, that the fucking old demo (which has its own original mini story not found in the actual game) is better.
Combat is less floaty in it than in the final fucking product.

I'm a huge Fan of Yakuza, but honestly, I barely touched the mini games or side missions (except I'm falling in them without knowing, for example the side mission in Y2 with the grown up business men cosplay as little babies in a weird japanese brothel or the one with the manly stripper in Y1 who tries to kill you with a shotgun). I like the serious undertone and cinematic style in the campaign, the whole quirky weird asian stuff in the side missions doesn't fit for me, even if I know from people who lived their that japanese media in general is like that and besides that they punch each other you can assume that stuff like that could happen to a tourist in Tokyo.
I always think "Yeah, after the main mission I do the side stuff", but I never do and just switch to the next game.
