Also, Z moves are a good mechanic. As lackluster as Sun/Moon were, there is nothing wrong with Z moves other than that you can't skip the dance animation. They add a strategic depth to battles, since you can only use them once, so they are also not as overpowered as Megas that could tear through entire teams after the mega evolution. Also, only a few mons got megas, while every mon can use Z moves.

Yes, it does. You can only use it once a battle, so you will have to make a decision when to do it. You can use it to take out an offensive threat, or punch a hole into the opponent's defensive core. You can use it to give a mon with a shallow move pool more coverage, or you could use it to set up with another mon since Z moves do more than just damage, if you use them wiht status moves.
On top of that you have to anticipate the opponent's Z move.

Z moves add another layer both to fighting and to team building.

Why would you want that? Why would you want Pokemon games to turn into something they are not? Turn based combat is what the game mechanics are designed for: type advantages, four-slot-movesets, switching, all that stuff only makes sense in the current turn based combat. I can understand if you want them to make an action game with the Pokemon IP, but why would you want mainline games to change like that? If you dislike them, don't play them.

That only happened in BW and there's a good reason

Each new series is aimed at a new audience, they don't expect the old fans to keep watching the anime for so long, so they gotta show the pokedex entry for old pokemon too

In AG, DP and XY Ash's female companion had a pokedex so she used it to scan old pokemon, while Ash only used his pokedex for new pokemon

in BW none of Ash's friends had a pokedex, so Ash had to use his (and even then, he recognized the pokemon and named them before using the pokedex)

In SM the pokedex is possessd by a Rotom, who uses it to show the pokemon's entry to Ash's friends

The Orange Islands were filler as Generation 2 had not been released yet.
The writers also had plenty of leeway for that season, including the GS Ball Subplot that was supposed to later come to fruition in Johto only to get shut down because of the Celebi Movie that would interfere with the the GS Ball containing Celebi which would lead to an arc with it journeying with Ash for awhile, and as such they had to pass it onto Kurt once he reached Azalea Town, where it would never be seen again.

There are plenty of people who likely have ninetails or whatever as their favorite mon, but instead of ninetails now getting an evo or a mega and enchnaing it, a better version got made that significantly alters it's concept. Those people would play the game anyways.

Also, besides the "it's shitty to them" thing, I just feel it breaks away from "evolution" as a core mechanic. Megas still enhanced the base mon, this is an "alternate", I don't think that suits the series.

How can anybody be mad at what the shit Pokemon is doing? It was always formulaic as fuck, I recently stumbled upon one of the newer episodes and it's literal slice of life shit with 95% filler episodes catered towards shutting up small kids above the age of 5 years. Digimon always was the better anime with an actual story, with actual power progression, aging characters and some over-spanning plot that wasn't always the same, hell even a small child will get annoyed of Team Rocket at some point.

The bad guy in the webm intentionally gave Yuma a card that would hinder him later on and even made his alien space ghost super buddy go evil for a bit. The reason they cheated in the webm was because the card was incomplete, they brought out what it was supposed to be in the middle of the duel and completely btfo'd Vector. They don't do it again in the show but they do create cards in the middle of the duel though so I'm not sure if that's really anything different.

Kanto to Johto Ash had development. He stopped being a little shit by the time he went to Hoenn.
