Don't feel like you have to play the games in release order to understand some overarching plot, the games are barely related outside of direct sequels and stuff like 4/Final. It's more about the themes they put on display than a grand story. Nocturne is pretty accessible, but you can play a spinoff to get your feet wet first if you like.
