How important are artillery in Napoleon Total War? I'm thinking about playing it but I'm not good with artillery. Can I get by without them like in Medieval 2?
I haven't played it since release but one of the reasons Napoopan irl was such a good general was because of his effective use of artillery.

You probably can against the AI but they are really strong in NTW if I remember well enough they destory morale and inflict a fuckload of damage compared to Empire, artillary is easy to use anyway, either place them on a hill above your troops and let them fire away or place them in the middle of your lines to get straight fire on enemy infantry and then cannister shot them to fuck when they close in.

Napoleon was LITERALLY an artillery officer. Big, fancy cannons were LITERALLY the MBTs of the Napoleonic Wars.
Unless you're actually French or something you have no reason to play this game if you're not gonna use artillery.

The small portable cannons were just as important!

Nigga they all portable. But the big ones looked much cooler.

It's an arty piece that is OP as fuck.
They are quite inaccurate at long range but the close range canister shot will make a unit flee after few rounds.
