It's not really musou. You have an action guage that, early in missions, takes way too long between allowing you actions to feel anything like a musou, and there's no comboing.

There is an insane amount of dialogue and cutscenes and very little in between them, but the story itself is pretty enjoyable.

Story and characters are decent, the revenge plot is interesting and the squad is likable when you get to know them, but the story is dragged down by an overabundance of cutscenes with little between them.

The gameplay is weird, I never felt like I found a rhythm or depth to it. Maybe I was missing something but the game didn't reward experimenting much, or really doing anything besides whacking the enemies, and some of its systems felt forced/unnecessary (permadeath felt unnecessary for example, since saving someone just meant walking to them, which holds little weight in a non-turn based game).

Music was nice.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend it as a game, but if it some day gets an anime adaption, might be worth watching.

This is a weird game. Like it has a really decent foundation and a lot of admittededly neat ideas, but nothing really comes together as well as it could have so it just ends up being "ok" instead of "good". I had some fun with it and $40 wasn't a bad price for the collector's edition though.

The story is actually pretty interesting and there's a ton of lore and world building. But it's presented through a lot of dull info dumps so it's hard to get fully engaged at times. I do like that they take a "show not tell" angle for most events though so you're constantly seeing what happens behind the scenes as well and nothing feels left out. Characters aren't bad either and everyone in the main squadron contributes to the story and scenes and it never feels like they're just tagging along. They get a lot of side development outside of the main narrative too.

I'm still convinced it was meant to be a Shining game and they decided to make it a VC spinoff at the last minute.

Handhelds are much more popular than consoles in Japan, and 2 and 3 did sell better than 1 iirc. From a business standpoint it wasn't a bad choice. Handhelds are also cheaper to develop for and if the return from sales is higher it's a better way to make money.

For this, like someone else pointed out, it probably started as a completely different game then Sega tried to slap the VC name on it to eek out more sales based on that.

It depends. I'd only say Brunhilde's hair is better in-game because Selvaria's in-game hair wasn't as well animated and looked thinner. In art Selvaria's hair is just as good or better.

Selvaria has Brunhilde-level tits in some Raita artwork but in-game and concept art, she's a fair bit smaller. That's worth noting too.

Either way, Selvaria is miles ahead IMO.

Azure could have benefited from a hard mode. Combat gives you all these options and tactics but there's no reason to use half of them because it's so easy and running up and attacking works fine 95% of the time. It could have been way more interesting than it turned out. As it is though, if you don't relate it to VC at all which isn't hard, it's an ok 6/10 game, especially since they didn't release it at full price. The story and setting are genuinely way more interesting than the other VC games even if the presentation could use some work.

She's the main villains secret weapon. Shows up a few times to fight the main cast, but doesn't really get any backstory until the very end where it's basically all in one throwaway scene. Her vessel, the person whose body was used to summon her, is a bit more relevant to the plot though.

To be clear, the post-game is mostly treading old ground. So if you want more story, the only extras are the notebook and DLCs, which is a couple hours I guess. Post-game other than that is just more gameplay on maps you've already seen.
