The fact that you make that distinction between IRL and online relationships is a bit worrying. Sure, there are some clear and undeniable differences between dealing with people online or in person, but the core of it remains that you're dealing with human beings. If you hurt someone online it's going to have the same moral implications as if you did that in person. You're not going to get away with saying "oh but I'm a gud person actually!" right after purposefully shitting on someone just because they were on the internet. The same idea applies to how involved you can get with people. I'd guess it's not uncommon for people in this place to have spent years of their life interacting online with person they've never faced. We're talking hours a day for years. I dunno man, that one hurt the most because I could see he was still conversing with the same group of friends and was joking around all the time on other sites we went to and Twitter. I don't think Steam actually works this way. I'm pretty much always offline, half the games in my library Valve think I've only played for 10 or 20 minutes because I only run the once while online, after I've installed them. My activity logs contain nothing about activity done offline except achievements and Valve attributes them to all happening on the same day as when I go online and without actually having played the game I got the achievement in.

I knew someone who was the first case from college and I ended up cutting all ties with them because he was absolutely clingy on daily messages by the time I cut him off.

I thought something was wrong with him when we were in programming class and he basically asked to see my work on EVERY project and continued to fail to understand concepts I tried to help him with. It even got to the point where I had to explain to the professor why our work was so similar (he was often visited in his office to help out as well, so he understood the situation)

He ended up failing the class and I pretty much unfriended him a few months afterwards because he only got worse in online conversations.

I can speak for the same as a more of a listener rather than someone that speaks about themself a lot--- people tend to like having that network of cushion to vent out to, but most don't care when it doesn't relate to themselves.

Online relationships are really dependent on what people perceive to be what they're getting out of that relationship (a person sharing the same interests, someone to vent to, someone you like, etc) but as soon as that perceived value goes down it's hard to keep the friendship going.

I would say your best bet would be to find that spark that connected you guys in the first place, look back on memories and catch up slowly without venting out everything at once.

A few days ago I went to sleep at 5am, and woke up at 9am fully refreshed. I had a lot to do that day including taking two trains and walking around my city for an hour or two.

I just block the guys who annoy me, and if i annoy someone they block me. I dont form bonds with online friends, because they could lying about everything they tell me about.

There's a girl I know IRL who's really quiet and says almost nothing in group conversations, and it's really weird. Like she's just a warm body and not much else. Roping her into the conversation just helps me feel like they actually want to be there
