Agreed, the lightning in Dark Souls 1 looks really unique. Darker parts in distance really disappear with the lack of light and only highlights can be seen. There's more dynamics to the brightness even if you max out the brightness than in any other Souls game, though DeS also has at least some of the elements already in it.
