That's pretty neat. I don't play Street Fighter but I like watching it at Evo. I'm too casual for it. The combo timing isn't as lenient as the games I'm used to (ArcSys games). I suck at links no matter what character I try.

hitstop/stun might be too different for you.
thats something that different across all games, can feel either easier or harder to transition to another game based on that.

I've tried SFV, yeah. But what trips me up is that I learned how to do combos in games like BlazBlue and P4U. They're really easy even though they're long because for the most part unless there's intentionally a delay in part of the combo, timing isn't really a factor. You're just quickly inputting one move after the next. It's hard for me to develop the sightly slower and more deliberate muscle memory you seem to need for Street Fighter combos.

It is kind of a dirty secret with esports, it turns the group from players to viewers. The bigger it gets a smaller percentage will play or play regularly.

Problem is SFV lacks a good initial install base and is kinda expensive to get into at this point.

SC2 is just an example of a small esport, Dota2 is far from having its playerbase turned into viewers.
LoL has like 10 million players or so and recently had 1m viewers tuning in for its most important tournament.

Nah. I've seen the core game and both seasons together on sale for like 40-60.

Hell core game+S1 for 30$ is all you need, unlocking characters past that is really easy.

Completionists who want all cosmetics will get fucked though.

SFV Top 8 was actually really hype this year. Last year it was a fucking snooze fest. Charlie vs. Chunners, boring defensive play and broken characters. This year, there was real drama, and great play. Tokido working his way from Losers, after Punk sent him there. Punk, the new kid on the block, at only 18 tearing through seasoned veterans. Emotion, drama, tears, it had it all.

Often times it's just a player using a broken character, who, through luck got into top 8. Because the character is broken, any random player using it will get a huge advantage. Punk was using Karin, who isn't broken at all. I suspect he'll go far.

You say that but go watch footage of Punk from throughout the current CPT. He's got the same problem a lot of the one year wonders have.

He can't adjust and has no stamina. He's a short distance sprinter, not a full fledged runner.
Even the way he's hyped by commentators follows all the one year wonder players.

He'll be broken by the start of the fall majors because everyone will know his game style. The end of the year majors are always where the balance is disrupted.

Remember last year? Nuckledu dominated the back half all the way to Capcom Cup even after his disastrous first half of the year.
