The game that triggered all the number crunching autism for me was Borderlands 2, I built my character wrong and started getting fucked in the endgame. So I started digging through forums and youtube videos obsessively only to find out there's a whole another world of numbers beyond what the game says and how there's some crazy ass loopholes you can do to buff damage higher. Now I'm really getting into JRPGs and love all the number crunching autism for maximum efficiency.

I still don't understand what the DEF stat in ds3 is. There's absorptoin, which I think is the stat that tells how much % of dmg the armor absobrs, but then there's the DEF stat whic increases based on how many armor pieces you wear. Wtf is that even

Few games tell you what the stats do and when they do, they almost never tell you the exact figures. It's fine as long as the purpose of stats is easily inferred and consistent, but often stats are inscrutable as fuck and factored into dozens of different things that you never even expect.

Like a game might have "Strength" and you'd probably correctly infer that it affects physical damage, except then there's a bunch of weapons which scale off Agility or Magic and it never tells you which ones.

I don't really know why they go to that level of obfuscation. The autists will datamine or test the actual figures to work out the optimal setup anyway, all it does it make it harder for the people you're trying to simplify things for.

In Hyrule Warriors weapons have elements, but the most the game tells you about them is that each element has a particular bonus effect (e.g. lightning does bonus damage to airborne enemies). It never even hints that certain characters and monsters are weak to particular elements, let alone tell you what the weaknesses are, even though they become by far the biggest influence on damage.
