I really don't understand how demon points and chaotic ending in Dishonored is considered a punishment. It's merely a reflection of your playstyle and choices made. You still complete the game and experience everything the game has to offer. What's the punishment?

The game is incredibly liberal about heroism. As long as you're Fultoning a few guards and animals here and there it basically doesn't matter how you take out the rest. The horn is fucking stupid though. I only ever saw it when I made my first nuke.

Headshots were pretty easy to land even with the dudes in the helmets since you can just shoot their exposed face when they're looking in your direction, the only pain in the ass enemies to kill are the heavy infantry dudes

I want to do a "pseudo-subsistence" playthrough on a new file. Basically, go in every mission with the absolute bare minumum sortie barring arm/mobility upgrades. Pretty sure the sortie doesn't let you go without a handgun and a submachine gun, though.

The ideal way to play is to sneak around enemies. Even shooting a single weapon is basically a compromise. If you absolutely must take down an enemy for whatever reason, ideally you should do it as stealthily as possible. Knock them out whether with CQC or a tranquilizer, or use a silenced weapon. If you use a weapon that makes a lot of noise, you're bound to get caught. And if you do take someone out one way or another, you should take care to stash their body somewhere so it doesn't cause a ruckus if someone happens upon it.

The more powerful weapons basically exist in the event of the worst-case scenario where you DO get caught and you don't have the luxury to be indirect. In this case, it's just easier to shoot them to death than it is to CQC each and every one of them. In a situation where a bunch of enemies are on your tail, wiping them all out in one stroke with an AK is the fastest and safest way to go. By this point, you've already fucked up, so what's one more compromise?

Also, you only really rack up a huge amount of demon points if you go out of your way to kill everyone in your way. But at that point, you're not even trying to be stealthy anymore. You've pretty much lost sight of your objective from the start.
