Most of the time I prefer playing on less than ultra since it means I don't have to deal with cataracts-like settings like DoF, motion blur, heavily-blurry post-process AA, CA and other shit. I think I fucked up applying thermal paste because I get these idling temps that can go as high as 70 degrees almost hit 100 when playing something like PUBG. Sucks because I don't have much left and don't have way to get what's there off.

I'm thinking about upgrading since I fell for the i5 is enough last generation (i5-6500). I don't know if I should get a 6700k or a 7700k since the price difference is like 10$ around here. But the 7700k gets crazy hot and is only 15% faster. Do you guys believe that the 8700k wich will release later this year will have a significant spike in performance and run at decent temps? So should I just wait?

everybody goes with a 212 evo for their i7 for some reason, and the max they're getting is around 4.4ghz. For the full ~5ghz you need something like an h80i/h100i or a bigass noctua. Those are around $80. $120 + $80 (and avg price for a z270 board) = 5-10% in performance gains.
