Dawn of Ys is nice, but it has plenty of boring and drawn out fights too, and some are super easy. Gadis 2 is is slow as and easy, and Gruda is a fucking pansy despite being the last of the trio to be defeated.
The soundtrack is what it's got going for him, because otherwise the story took too many liberties and ended up going for fanfic territory in some aspects, which is a shame since they clearly put a lot of effort into it.

No. Instead of playing as just Adol, you have two other fighters you can snap between on the fly to handle battles, and everyone has more detailed equipment, skills you can learn from weapons, Flash Guard to null damage if you time it right, etc. Seven's great because of the enemy/dungeon/boss variety, decent challenge, great music and artstyle, and fast combat.
