The gameplay at the start of the game is abysmal, you don't have key abilities for a few missions and everything is just wonky.
It does kick up to 11/10 though by the end of the first chapter, but the first few missions are just really fucking bad.

Devil May Cry 3 and 4 are pretty dull when you don't have all the weapons/abilities unlocked and you can only play on low difficulties, but get much, much better once you've beaten the game and get all the cool stuff

The problem is that 50% of the enemies in the beginning missions are the guys you gotta reflect the cannon shots to effectively damage.
So if you buy dodge before block, you just have a horrible time.

I'm really on the fence about whether or not I actually enjoy Persona. Reminds me of a quote by some writer

"I don't enjoy writing but I enjoy having written" or something like that. I feel the same with Persona. I never enjoyed playing it but I enjoyed having played it.

Persona is a weird case because it's ostensibly a story-driven game but I think most people are more addicted to the calendar mechanics. Especially true for P3 where the game is pretty much hands off until November, for better or worse.

now, I've only played P5, but I thoroughly enjoyed it while I was playing it. Presentation is top-notch, music is great, the demon/character designs are cool, fusing Personas is addictive, I liked how the battle system revolved around OTKs, dungeons had neat concepts, I liked how I had the option of choosing when to engage with the enemies, and I wanted to get to know practically all the characters better and finish their routes.

What I didn't like was when the game arbitrarily tells me I can't have free time with no warning beforehand, including essentially truncating the last 3 months of the calendar, or "exams" taking up the ENTIRE DAY for 4 days straight.

I also thought the tweest about Akechi was retarded, and the obligatory "kill god" super-ultra-final boss was redundant.

Also, there was some utterly un-translated Japanese in the cut-scenes, which felt amateurish.

What makes you say you don't enjoy actually playing Persona games? Or is it more faults with the previous titles, and I happened to play the actually good one?
